New from Whitefall - Mal’s discharge papers

Saturday, July 1st, 2006

wf_dischargepapers.jpgIt helps to put your own mania in perspective when you can keep an eye on someone farther down the obsession scale than you, and for me that’s Whitefall. I’m not sure he sleeps, frankly.

His latest is available at the propcircle.com forum, it’s Malcolm Reynolds’ discharge papers from the Independent Army. Beautifully detailed, ready to print at 200 dpi.

I got River’s stylus

prop_stylus.jpg

Finally I can do all that homework I’ve been putting off all those decades. Despite my constant pimping I haven’t bought much myself from The Prop Store of London — I prefer items that are identifiable as being from the movie in question, instead of generic props, and that tends to price them out of my wallet — but when this popped up within my means I had to grab it.

prop_cash_capsbro.jpgActual cash from the movie, autographed by Nathan Fillion. Guaranteed authentic, which isn’t too tough since Nathan’s brother Jeff is the one selling these on eBay.

Serenity translite replicas

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

prop_translite.jpgAnyone who has ever searched for Firefly or Serenity on eBay has seen olveg’s replicas for the last few years, and more than a few lucky Browncoats have bought them. These are exact reproductions from the original translites taken from the set of Firefly when the Serenity set was torn down.

The Prop Store of London

Friday, January 20th, 2006

prop_money.jpgThe Prop Store in London bought up a ton of official, licensed props from the movie Serenity and they’re going fast. Cash from the bank heist? How about the lock on the safe they busted into? Or the money bag? Or cups and dishware from the ship, or bloody Reaver weapons, or the pulse beacon? How about some Alliance weaponry, or the Operative’s sword? I picked up the bank heist money, and it’s really nice. You can see pics and my review here.

Say, now would be a nice time for some grenades, you think?

Check back frequently; they’re adding more nearly every day. And, sadly for my bank account, they have a payment plan… Read on for an interview with The Prop Store’s buyer, Stephen Lane.

I got bank heist money

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

prop_money.jpgAfter two days without mail (I can’t believe the Reverend Doctor Martin Luthor King Jr, great man that he was, would have wanted me to not get mail) I got a bonanza yesterday. I got a black Blue Sun shirt from BlueSunShirts.com, the Serenity dog tag I ordered from SerenityVerse.com, and the bank heist money prop from The Prop Store of London. Read on for a description and a bigger pic.

The Ambulance from “Ariel”

Friday, January 13th, 2006

arielambulance.jpgThis isn’t a prop you buy for yourself, exactly, but it’s a chance to rescue a prop from the show. A gent named Akin found the ambulance from the episode Ariel in a scrap yard and posted about it. Interested fans took up the cause of buying it. Adam Whiting did the research necessary to track down the owner, and the fund-raising has begun to buy the ship and pay for storage. And you can help!

Save the Ariel Ambulance website (to donate)
Save the Ariel Ambulance Yahoo! group (for the latest updates)

Plans are afoot to make T-shirts and other merchandise available to raise money, more updates when anything is available.

Got my chopsticks!

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

My runner-up prize from the official movie site’s contest (write a short description of River Tam’s escape from the academy, from the viewpoint of an Alliance officer) arrived yesterday; a pair of chopsticks used in the movie. I am happy. Read on for a picture and my entry.

Poplollies

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Fill your cargo holds with tons of official and unofficial loot from the Poplollies Serenity Shop!

Sure, you can get the books, comics, and action figures here, but you can also get Serenity cookies, postcards from Miranda, Chinese lanterns, Joss is Boss merchandise, and (my favorite) hand-painted parasols, just perfect for keeping the sun off while you try to lure people into your Firefly class mid-bulk transport ship. Recommended.
