Serenity artist extraordinaire Jason Palmer is blessing us with a series of licensed portraits of our Big Damn Heroes and he’s just added the next two: Book and Kaylee, with Simon on the way.

Each one is available as a limited edition Giclee print, 13″x19″, with a double mat to fit a 16″x20″ frame, only 300 available. They’re also available as one of only a hundred prints on Fine Art canvas, on a 14″x20″ thin black canvas frame. All of them are signed and numbered. You can discounts by preordering entire sets (all nine crewmembers and a picture of Serenity), plus you’ll get an exclusive portrait of the Operative that won’t be sold separately! The Firefly Companion, Vol. One

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Out early, finally, Titan Books has given us a wonderful gift in the Firefly Companion.

Designed with the same style and attention to detail as their Serenity Companion, the Firefly Companion is utterly crammed with cool stuff. I was blown away. Let me see if I can get the idea across.

Since Firefly came out, I have read every article and interview I could find. I’ve read Joss and Tim’s reviews of each episode, I’ve heard the commentaries again and again, I’ve hovered around all the websites and just absorbed it all. And yet this book has something new for me on almost every page.

Pre-order The Firefly Companion

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

titan_firefly.jpgComing soon from Titan Books, the Official Firefly Companion. Now listed at Amazon with a September 30 release date for the US and a June 23 release date for the UK, although neither of those have been confirmed. The description from the UK site includes:

“This official companion is just what the show’s fervent fans, the ‘Browncoats’, have been waiting for, with unseen photos, scripts, behind the scenes secrets, and exclusive input from the cast and crew, including of course creator Joss Whedon.”

The intriquing part for me? It’s labeled “Volume One.”

Preorder it at Amazon and get $7 off the cover price, or order it from Amazon.co.uk and save £5.78.

Serenity movie poster (US)

Friday, January 13th, 2006

serenity_poster.jpgCover your walls with the official Serenity movie poster!

The poster is 27 x 40 inches and double-sided — printed on both sides so it’ll look crisp in a frame with a light behind it the way theaters do. It’s also available in a black rounded metal frame with either clear or non-glare plexiglas for a beautiful presentation.

Serenity movie mylar

Friday, January 13th, 2006

serenity_mylars.jpg

Hadn’t even known about these until I saw them listed on Jesse White-Clark’s SerenityVerse.org page on Serenity promos. Movie mylars are those translucent mini-posters that appear over the theater the movie is playing in, and may appear as promotional posters around the lobby. They’re made of different materials, can be double- or single-sided, and come in different sizes.

MovieMylars has Serenity mylars in three different sizes, 5″x25″, 5″x13″, and 2 1/2″x11 1/2″.

Update: I’ve heard reports that some buyers have not received orders and have not been able to contact the site owner. Can anyone offer experiences either for or against the site?

Jason Palmer Illustration

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

jp_fireflyserenity.jpg

Jason Palmer loves Firefly. You can tell. He takes such care to capture the personalities of the characters and it gives his stunning illustrations a comfortable sense, a feeling that he “gets” them the same way you do. I understand Joss Whedon has one of the “Firefly” prints hanging in his office, and I don’t blame him. I’ve got one over my desk and I see new details every time I look at it.

jp_portraits.jpg

jp_fxcover.jpgPalmer has completed several limited-edition licensed art prints and you can get them through SerenityPrint.com , or by hunting him down at conventions. Above left: “Shindig,” one of a planned series of prints for each episode. Center: “Mal and Inara.” Above right: “River,” one of a series of cast pictures. Right: the cover for the 2006 FX Convention in Orlando.

One thing: if you order from him make sure you also order the double mats (if they’re not included) to size them for standard frames. It’ll make your life easier, and he’s chosen the colors to complement the artwork.

He also creates licensed artwork for shows and movies outside the ‘Verse, for those who are interested in such things. You can see more of his work at jasonpalmer.net.

Firefly DVD set

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

fireflydvds.jpgTo be a browncoat, you really should start here.

Joss Whedon’s short-lived, badly treated TV show didn’t last long on television. But the DVD set has been a best-seller for several years now, winning new converts with every viewing. All 14 original episodes (in the correct order and everything) plus bloopers, features, commentaries, and more.

“Five hundred years in the future, there is a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action. They’ll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space.”

The funniest drama and the most exciting comedy you’ll ever see.

Firefly Soundtrack

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

firefly_ost.jpgAfter two years of impassioned requests by browncoats, the original soundtrack by Greg Edmondson was finally released. Edmondson mixed different bits of music from here and there to create suites that capture the haunting and playful music he wrote for Firefly.

Instruments from around the world can be heard here, to fit the ‘Verse’s eclectic nature, and the theme song written by Joss Whedon and sung by Sonny Rhodes is guaranteed to get into your head.
