Buy Firefly eps through Amazon’s new Unbox Video

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

amazon_unbox.jpgAmazon just launched their new video rental/download system, and Firefly is promoted big time on the front page. At least Amazon loves us…

There will be many downloads in your life. But only one first download from Amazon Unbox Video. So make it special. Light the candles. Pour a beverage and consider:

Firefly, because it didn’t get enough love the first time around.
The Matrix, because Morpheus would want you to.
South Park, because you want to bleepin’ laugh.
Three Kings, because it’s a thriller, an art film, and a killer comedy all in one.

“Done the Impossible” is done!

Friday, July 14th, 2006

dti_box.jpgJust announced: Done the Impossible is done! Finally! From the e-mail announcing it:

“After exactly one year of production, we are happy to announce that the documentary and DVD are done!  It took considerably longer than we had originally expected, and we appreciate your patience.  But we think you will be genuinely surprised by the quality of both the documentary and all of the special features on the DVD and DVD-ROM.
The DVD master was sent to be replicated on July 11th and we expect to begin shipping copies in 7-14 days after that.  We will be shipping in the order in which they were received.”

Done the Impossible is “the story of the rise and fall and rebirth of the cult TV show “Firefly,” as told from the perspective of the fans who helped save it.”

Full of interviews with the cast, crew, and fans, this documentary charts the rise of the browncoats that took Joss Whedon’s creations far beyond a TV set or a movie theater. They set out to revive a show, and they created a community. Here’s a partial list of what you’ll see:dti_timeline.jpg

  • The Documentary (almost 90 minutes long),
  • Interactive Timeline
  • Trivia
  • ‘Verse Dictionary
  • Commentary
  • ‘What is Firefly?’ - mini-doc
  • Music Videos
  • Interactive Viewing Experience DVD-ROM with:
    • Over six hours of extended VIP and fan interviews
    • Printable Fan artwork, recipes and songs.
    • Printable Posters and Guerilla Marketing materials
    • Fan and VIP Biographies
    • Conversion stories
    • Live Transcript with links glossary terms
    • A Running Fan Count
    • All searchable, cross-indexed and obsessively interactive.

All this and a few surprises as well. This is a massive thing, the definitive look at Firefly fandom. If nothing else you have to get it to scan for your face… Hosted by Adam Baldwin, includes voiceovers by Jewel Staite. Head here to see the trailers.

A percentage of the DVD proceeds will be donated to Joss Whedon’s favorite charity, Equality Now.

Tim Minear screenwriting DVD: Breaking the Story

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

dvd_timminear.jpgTim Minear (writer/occasional director/exectuive producer for Firefly) gave a seminar on breaking a story at the 4th Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles last year, and it’s available on DVD. And I just watched it. And it’s good.

The idea is that the auditorium is a huge writer’s room, and they’re all writing an episode of Angel. Audience members pitch ideas and if he doesn’t think they’ll work he explains why, if he thinks he can use part of the idea he will, and if he likes the idea he gets a delighted look on his face and writes them up on the white board.

Cinefacts.de was nice enough to collect links for the different versions (and the UMD version) so I’ll just point you there.

    Serenity DVD (Australia)

    Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

serenity_dvdau.jpgAustralians had to wait the longest for their DVD, but they got more than anybody. This is a 2-disc set with lots of tasty extras. Oz Browncoats also get “A Filmmakers Journey,” a Joss Whedon Q & A Session (filmed at Sydney’s Fox Studios), Extended Scenes, “Take a Walk on Serenity,” where the cast and Crew take us on a special tour of the Serenity ship, and “The Green Clan,” a featurette on cinematographer Jack Green.

    Buy: DVD, UMD/PSP

serenity_dvdtin.jpgThere are also some limited editions versions available from different outlets. EzyDVD has a collector’s tin (left), and JB Hi-Fi has a slipcase edition (right). Same discs inside, just cooler containers.

Also, according to the Serenity Oz website, if you purchase the DVD at either Dick Smith Powerhouse stores or WOW Sight & Sound stores (in QLD and NT only) and get a free mouse pad. I believe it’s walk-in only, check the links for a location near you.
