Win a Little Damn Hero of your own

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Remember the Little Damn Heroes maquettes designed by Adam Levermore-Rich and made by QMx that we’ve been waiting for? QMx made three sets of prototypes, which have stayed firmly in the hands of Adam and QMx despite my best effo… um, they have them safe. But I have seen them up close, and they are exceptionally cool.

But now two of them are being auctioned off for Can’t Stop the Serenity, to benefit Equality Now. QMx will auction off one Mal maquette and one River maquette at the upcoming Can’t Stop the Serenity screenings in Los Angeles and Orange County, respectively. You’re getting the prototypes, so those versions won’t be the ones ultimately released (River’s axe is upside down, for one thing). This is an amazing chance to get something that literally no one else in the world has. Except for Adam. And QMx. Dammit.

More details and pics here.

Limited edition Fruity Oaty Bar lithograph

Friday, April 4th, 2008

qmx_fruityoatbarlitho.jpgI’ve been waiting for this one… New from QMx, a limited edition lithograph of the Fruity Oaty Bar ad, signed and numbered by Serenity graphic designer Geoff Mandel himself.

The Fruity Oaty Bar ad in Serenity is one of the most notable few seconds of film in the movie. Short as the ad is it sticks with you, just like the Mr Sparkle Detergent ad from The Simpsons. As it turns out it was that very ad from the Simpsons that inspired both Joss Wheedon and Serenity designer Geoffrey Mandel to create the Fruity Oaty Bar video that sent River into kill mode.

In the continuing collaboration between the Serenity design team and QMX we are proud to offer you the chance to own one of these limited edition Fruity Oaty Bar lithographs. Each lithograph measures 36″x24″ and is hand signed and numbered by Mr Mandel. It’s shiny!

Each print will be shipped rolled in individual tubes.

$39.95, due out June 11. Order yours now!

Limited edition Can’t Stop the Serenity teaser poster

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

cantstopteaserposter.jpgPeople across the world are gearing up for this year’s Can’t Stop the Serenity event, where showings of Serenity will be held on or around June 23 (Joss’ birthday) to benefit Equality Now. Last year over $65,000 dollars was raised from events in 47 cities around the world from Browncoats who gathered and partied and auctioned and sang and just shindigged their hearts out before watching the magic happen all over again on the big screen.

Even if you can’t make it to one of the shows — none close to you? organize your own — you can still help by donating or by buying Can’t Stop the Serenity merchandise, and the first thing up is an incredible full-color 27? x 40? teaser poster by BlackMarketBeagles.com’s Adam Levermore-Rich. This isn’t the final version, which will be released in May and contain the sponsor logos and list of participating cities. This one is a limited run of 500 copies, available now, and once they’re gone they’re gone. $20, plus shipping, and they’re only available from the following sources:

Dallas: http://dallas.cantstoptheserenity.com

Chicago: maryquesera@earthlink.com

Don’t miss out, they’re selling fast.

New Serenity PVC figures from Dark Horse

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

tfaw_pvc.jpg

New stuff from Dark Horse! New PVC figures of Mal, River and Jayne are now available for preorder from Things From Another World at 20% off the retail price.

The master sculptors at Gentle Giant Studios have taken full-size 3-D digital scans of the main actors from Joss Wheden’s blockbuster film Serenity and created a fabulous, realistically detailed PVC set of the favorite three crew members. This process has allowed us to achieve an unprecedented level of accurate detail, both in terms of the distinctive likenesses and the accessories and costumes. Since you can’t get these actors to come visit you at home and sit on your bookshelf or computer, this is probably the next best thing!

More licensed stuff! I’m pleased. I must have some more shelf space around here somewhere…

Jayne is 4″ tall, Mal is 3.9″ tall, and River is 3.45″ tall. Shipping May 16, 2007 (I hope).

Recycled Serenity billboard handbags

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Ecoist uses recycled and organic materials to make Earth-conscious and funky fashion accessories. And one of the product lines includes handbags, messenger bags, and wallets made from recycled movie billboards, and there’s this movie that some of us like…

Here’s what they currently have. I have no idea if they swap out designs, but I would imagine their quantities would of necessity have to be limited.

Custom etched shot glasses

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

firefly_shotglasses.jpgWhen you’re in a rundown bar somewhere celebrating Unification Day by picking out someone dumb and slow-moving, knock down a few in one of these beauties.

Brian’s etched shot glasses are very familiar to regular visitors of Firefly forums, and they’re now available from the eBay store Goodguycomics.

There are eight designs available (so far): the Blue Sun logo, Serenity, Serenity Browncoats, Big Damn Hero, the Alliance logo, the Independents logo, Firefly, and (my favorite) Browncoat Whiskey.

Custom action figures by Sasha

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

actionfigures_custom_sasha.jpgUnhappy with the first set of Serenity figures? Maybe the faces weren’t close enough, or you were just frustrated that they stopped with three characters? So was Sasha, so she started making her own.

Sasha Powell creates custom figures. BtVS, Angel, her own family and friends, and (wait for it) Firefly! She’s done one of each of the core cast and a few extra versions such as the frou-frou Kaylee (pictured) and busts of Mal, Inara, and the Hero of Canton. Starting from off-the-rack figures from Moore and McFarlane she cuts, slices, sculpts, melts and even boils them until she produces our heroes.
