Mal Wanted poster - fine art print by Geoffrey Mandel

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

ebay_malwanted.jpgGeoffrey Mandel, the graphics designer for the movie Serenity, is offering limited edition fine art prints of the wanted poster he designed for the Big Damned Flanvention. 24″ x 18″, offset printed on 100-lb coated gloss cover stock, only 500 copies will be made. Signed and numbered by the artist. (Click the thumbnail for a larger image. Actual print will have unique number and signature)

That’s the official stuff. My unofficial opinion is that this is seriously shiny. Crammed full of details about Mal and his sordid past, with a great pic of Nathan looking defiant and a bit peeved. Geoffrey will be offering this through eBay until they’re gone, so don’t wait too long.

Click here to see his listings. They’re going up for sale one by one, so if you don’t see any listings active at the moment check back later.

Serenity movie poster (US)

serenity_poster.jpgCover your walls with the official Serenity movie poster!

The poster is 27 x 40 inches and double-sided — printed on both sides so it’ll look crisp in a frame with a light behind it the way theaters do. It’s also available in a black rounded metal frame with either clear or non-glare plexiglas for a beautiful presentation.

Serenity movie mylar

Friday, January 13th, 2006

serenity_mylars.jpg

Hadn’t even known about these until I saw them listed on Jesse White-Clark’s SerenityVerse.org page on Serenity promos. Movie mylars are those translucent mini-posters that appear over the theater the movie is playing in, and may appear as promotional posters around the lobby. They’re made of different materials, can be double- or single-sided, and come in different sizes.

MovieMylars has Serenity mylars in three different sizes, 5″x25″, 5″x13″, and 2 1/2″x11 1/2″.

Update: I’ve heard reports that some buyers have not received orders and have not been able to contact the site owner. Can anyone offer experiences either for or against the site?

Cast photos

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

photo_cast.jpgFor the most part if I want a good photo of the Serenity cast I’m more likely to do a Google search or look for official actor sites or check the zillions of fan sites. But occasionally you might have a need for a professionally printed, glossy photo of a cast member, and there are sites out there ready to help such as Power Star Collectibles that has 8″x10″ glossy photos of the cast in and out of character.

Firefly movie poster

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

poster_fireflymovie.jpgThis unofficial teaser poster was offered from FireflyMovie.com (now SerenityMovie.net) before the movie was greenlighted, to go along with their guerilla marketing material promoting the franchise. Credits for the bottom were guessed at and the result was an attractive and attention-getting design that was invalidated the day the posters came back from the printer, which was the same day the movie name was announced. (All 1,200 sold out anyway)

27″x40″, single-sided (click image for larger version).

Jason Palmer Illustration

Jason Palmer loves Firefly. You can tell. He takes such care to capture the personalities of the characters and it gives his stunning illustrations a comfortable sense, a feeling that he “gets” them the same way you do. I understand Joss Whedon has one of the “Firefly” prints hanging in his office, and I don’t blame him. I’ve got one over my desk and I see new details every time I look at it.

jp_portraits.jpg

jp_fxcover.jpgPalmer has completed several limited-edition licensed art prints and you can get them through SerenityPrint.com , or by hunting him down at conventions. Above left: “Shindig,” one of a planned series of prints for each episode. Center: “Mal and Inara.” Above right: “River,” one of a series of cast pictures. Right: the cover for the 2006 FX Convention in Orlando.

One thing: if you order from him make sure you also order the double mats (if they’re not included) to size them for standard frames. It’ll make your life easier, and he’s chosen the colors to complement the artwork.

He also creates licensed artwork for shows and movies outside the ‘Verse, for those who are interested in such things. You can see more of his work at jasonpalmer.net.
