Preorder Little Damn Hero Mal!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

UPDATE #2: TFAW has aded their preorder discount! Order him now and get 20% off!

Well, that didn’t take long…

Next in the “Little Damn Hero” series from Adam Levermore-Rich and QMx, the Captain himself: Malcolm Reynolds.

“I aim to misbehave.”

With these words, Malcolm Reynolds, captain of the Firefly-Class Transport Serenity, let loose upon the Alliance the kind of retribution only a man with nothing left to lose can exact. And now the Mal, the man of action, is captured in this limited edition, hand-painted animated maquette, designed by well-known artist Adam Levermore-Rich, creator of the Blue Sun Travel Posters and the best-selling Battlestar Galactica Propaganda Posters.

The 4 1/2-inch resin statue shows Mal ready for action: Gun drawn and browncoat billowing behind him as if he’s just taken a bead on some Purple Belly who’s earned his righteous ire. Details in the maquette include screen-accurate sculpts of his boots, suspenders, even his pistol.

Only 1000 limited-edition “Aim to Misbehave” maquettes will be made, after which this design will be retired forever. “Aim” is the second in a series of QMx Little Damn Heroes Animated Maquettes, celebrating the spirit of Serenity’s crew (and maybe a couple of their most noteworthy enemies, as well).

I am loving this series and I want them all, so get going, people! Preorder yours today at TFAW.com. Coming in January 2009.

UPDATE #1: Here’s the official QMx page about it. And check this out: part of the proceeds will be going toward Kids Need to Read. How cool is that?

“Serenity Adventures” for the Serenity RPG now on sale

Friday, October 24th, 2008

rpg_serenityadventures.jpgNew from Margaret Weis Productions, a new expansion for the award-winning Serenity RPG.

“Serenity Adventures” is an anthology-style collection of five complete RPG games written by both new and established authors in the game industry. In it, you’ll find “Ghosts of the Rebellion” by James Davenport (Serenity RPG), “The Best Things Get Better With Age” by Alana Abbot (”Into the Reach”), “Freedoms Flight” by Ted Reed, “Seven Arks of Cibola” by Billy Aguiar, and “Mother Load” by James M. Ward (”Metamorphosis Alpha”). Like the original book the interior graphics design is by 11th Hour, but there’s lots of artwork by other artists in there as well and a cover by Digger Hayes.

On shelves now at TFAW and other retail stores. It’s not in the store at Margaret Weis Productions yet, but you can preorder a copy signed by Margaret Weis and jamie Chambers (link goes to the store; search for “Serenity”). Or you can build a downloadable PDf immediately by going here.

In the meantime, the folks at MW have been producing little add-ons and extras for free download, such as Sam’s Smuggler Emporium and a cortex newsfeed with some interesting info.

New stuff at the Creation store - ship shirt, Blue Sun glassware

Friday, October 17th, 2008

I dunno how Creation Entertainment seems to get this stuff before anyone else - often months before it shows up in retail stores - but they do, and they did again. Now at their store, just in time for this year’s Salute to Firefly and Serenity, are more cool new stuff.

There’s a nicely done Serenity ship shirt that’s sure to turn some heads, a Blue Sun shot glass (for when you’re not yet drunk enough to drink from the bottle), and a Blue Sun frosted shooter (for when you almost are). Head to the Creation store to check them out, as well as lots of stuff (and autographed pictures!) from previous cons.

And don’t miss the con itself, which features Jewel Staite, Ron Glass, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, and a very rare appearance by Gina Torres. Plus you get entertainment from our own Sing a Song of Saffron contest winner, Marian Call. It doesn’t get any better than that, legally. Nov. 22-23, in Burbank, CA.

“Little Damn Hero” Kaylee maquette on sale now!

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Now available, one of the most anticipated Serenity stuffs yet: the “LIttle Damn Heroes” Kaylee maquette, designed by Adam Levermore-Rich of BlackMarketBeagles.com.

We got a glimpse over a year and a half ago, when pics were leaked and demos were spotted at a con and one of the test pieces was auctioned off for CSTS, and some of us remember the original Little Damn Heroes cartoons by Adam Levermore-Rich that the maquettes are based on.But now they’re here and she’s looking very shiny indeed.

You can get ‘em at QMx or TFAW, but if you’re getting the QMx Insider newsletter you already know about the great 24-hour launch-day deal QMx has going today only (and if you’re not getting the newsletter, I think maybe you should so you know what I’m talking about, yes?). Besides, the newsletter will be the only way to find out about… I’ve said too much.

Shiny! The word epitomizes Serenity’s unsinkable engineer, Kaywinnit Lee Frye, or as she’s known to her friends, Kaylee. And now for the first time, Kaylee’s shining spirit is captured in this limited edition, hand-painted animation maquette, designed by well-known artist Adam Levermore-Rich, creator of the best-selling Serenity: Blue Sun Travel Posters. The stylized statue brings together Kaylee’s two seemingly contradictory aspects - savant engineer and girly girl - perfectly. Smiling beatifically, the 4 1/2′ Kaylee Maquette is sculpted wearing her mechanic’s coveralls (complete with teddy bear patch) and holding her trademark rainbow parasol, standing in her work boots on a black resin base. Limited to 1,500 pieces, this maquette will be a unique collectible that deserves a place in every Browncoat’s collection. Painted and ready to display.

They’ll be limited to 1,500, first in a series of Little Damn Heroes maquettes. And that’s the key, here: “first in a series.” I’ve seen the other two demo pieces, and I want the complete set. And I will yell at you until you buy enough of these to make the rest of the set a reality. And I can be pretty shrill, so get over to quantummechanix.com or TFAW.com and click away.

For sale: “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” promo stuff

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Attention! I am shamelessly using my Serenity site to plug the “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” promo items I just placed on eBay.  It stars Summer Glau, so there’s sorta kinda a relevant connection. Kinda.

Mainly I just want to sell em, though.

The auctions are for a promo cap, with the logo on the front and the FOX logo on the back, with some cool pre-stressed areas on the bill to make people think that you too are a battle-hardened soldier from the future, and two medium-sized T-shirts (here and here) with the logo in silver on the front and a bar code design and the FOX logo on the left sleeve, also in silver.

These were promotional items and are not available for sale anywhere that I know of. And c’mon, you know you want to promote this show all over the damn place. Wear these around, if you want the show to live (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Jayne hoodies now at ThinkGeek

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

I understand, you really, really wanted one of AbbyShot’s amazing Jayne hoodies but you’re fiercely loyal to ThinkGeek and purchase for yourself only what xcan be found within its many, many pages.

Well, worry no longer! Now you can buy the Jayne hoodie at the very same place you get your LED toys and your rubber duck flash drives.

When you’re on the edge of the ‘verse, you need a comfy hoodie to keep you warm on your travels. Now we know that anyone who’s a Jayne fan already has The Hat. So we picked up this cunning variation from a trader in one of the mining colonies. (Don’t worry. We checked the shipment to be sure it was free from Bowden’s Malady and also from the Alliance’s imprint.)

This full-zip red sweatshirt features ribbed cuffs and bottom and a drawstring neck. The hood has the signature yellow and orange stripes in the appropriate spots and the pom-pom of Jayne’s hat. The hoodie design doesn’t really lend itself to earflaps, so they’re represented by the red bottom stripe on the hood that bleeds down to fill the red body of the hoodie. The pockets on the front allow for smuggling of black market beagles (puppies, preferably). The left shoulder includes the design of of Jayne’s dragon tattoo outlined in black, as if you’ve gone for your first sitting but haven’t accrued enough credits to get it filled in yet.

Note: The pom-pom on the hoodie is attached with a safety pin; this is intentional. Some customers do not want to wear the pom-pom all the time. Also, when washing the hoodie we recommend that customers remove the pom-pom. Of course, customers can attach the pom-pom permanently if they so desire. We here at ThinkGeek recommend a small (but strong) magnet for semi-permanent installation.

Some of the sizes aren’t in stock yet but they’re coming soon. Think Geek! Some of us do little else.

Edited to add the link, now slinking away blushing…

Jason Palmer reveals the mystery print: Joss!

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

The final portrait of Jason Palmer’s Serenity Portrait Series has been revealed, and it’s a familiar face indeed.

This shrine-ready print (and the one of the Operative) is only available if you buy the complete set, but individual prints of the other 10 portraits are available in a variety of ways. There are nine portraits of the crew and one of the ship. You can order the individual 13″x19″ prints as either limited edition Giclee prints (heavy stock paper) or on canvas, gallery-wrapped on museum stretcher bars. There are also some of the original paintings available. And he still has some Book portrait prints autographed by Ron Glass.

But to get the Operative and Joss you’ll need to order the set. It can be ordered by itself or with a handsome silver polyethylene album with acid free page inserts and a matching carrier with shoulder strap, both featuring the Serenity logo. (Prints can be removed from the album if you’d rather frame ‘em, and why wouldn’t you). You also get character description pages with production sketches and quotes by Jason. Sets are available in Giclee prints or canvas.

Then there’s the Collector’s Album, which has everything listed above except the album is brushed aluminum with the Serenity logo on the cover, laser etched and hand painted and it comes with a matching aluminum box. You also get a one of a kind, original art pencil drawing by Jason Palmer of one of the characters (varying sizes 11×17 to 13×19).

This series represents a hell of a lot of loving work by Jason Palmer over the last few years and I think it really shows. Fill your walls with this personal tribute to the Big Damn Heroes and their universe. These are also excellent items to get signed at cons, and Jason himself shows up at more than a few. Although he might have to sleep for a few weeks now, I’m not sure…
