Serenity stuff at SDCC - pretty much all of it

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

If you’re going to the San Diego Comic-Con, you might save some time and just go to the California Browncoats table and give them all your money. If you’re in the market for a Firefly or Serenity item, they’ll have it there. UPDATE: Plus the four official Dr. Horrible T-shirts!

I’m not exaggerating, either. Check out the list at their SDCC page. All the books, all the DVDs, all the shirts and comics and licensed material from QMx and Dark Horse and all the great stuff from Out to the Black Outfitters and stuff to benefit charities like Equality Now (Joss’ favorite), Kids Need to Read (Nathan’s group) and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (Mark Sheppard’s charity of choice). They’ll even provide you with a shopping list to take with you, to make things easier.

They’ll also have con exclusives, like the limited edition Serenity: Better Days #1 with special variant cover we discussed earlier and copies of The Guild DVD.

And they’ll have guests and signings from PJ Haarsma (author of The Softwire series and co-founder of Kids Need to Read), Felicia Day (of “Buffy,” “The Guild,” and “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”), the cast of “The Guild,” Adam Levermore-Rich (fan-favorite browncoat artist and my partner in SaveHiatus.com), and Kevin J. Anderson & Rebecca Moesta (authors, Young Jedi Knights series and many more).

Plus contests, giveaways, a Jayne hat flash mob (shhh, it’s a secret!) and more! Check out their SDCC page for more info, and go find them at the same place they were last year, at tables A7/A8 in Hall A at the back of Aisle 300. Go say hi!

Whedonesque is down

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Apparently Dr. Horrible’s evil plan involves crashing the Internet. Fans storming the website at www.drhorrible.com overwhelmed it, and then went on to slam whedonesque.com to find out what happened to drhorrible.com. According to the admins, Whedonesque was pulling in 5 times their maximum allowed bandwidth when their host shut down their database.

They’re working feverishly to move everything to a new and presumably bigger server, and in the meantime you can still find the folks in the forums at whedonesque.org.

Get into Kaylee’s skirt

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Just for a moment I’m going to take a break from obsessing over Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” to remind myself that there’s still Serenity stuff out there (and I haven’t changed the name of this site… yet…).

Such as Kaylee’s skirt, now available at The Prop Store of London:

Kaylee’s (Jewel Staite) skirt used in the sci-fi adventure Serenity. Kaylee can be seen wearing this costume in the funeral scene at the end of the film. The patterned brown skirt (one size) has ‘Kaylee #1’ handwritten inside.

Firefly Blu-Ray DVD pushed to 2009

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

The Firefly Blu-Ray DVD set has been pushed back to 2009, but they are definitely still coming, according to Digital Bits.

So you have a bit more time to preorder it from Amazon and get the advance price. If you wanted. If, you know, you liked quality in high def, or something. Just saying.

From QMx: Big Damn Heroes Lithos by Steve Anderson

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

First QMx brings you the Little Damn Heroes, then they turn around and offer you big ones. Remember the the painting of Kaylee Steve Anderson posted on his site a while back? QMx commissioned him to create portraits of each of Serenity’s crew, and the first set of four should be available later this month.

The result is a breathtaking series of museum-quality 13″ x 19″ lithographs, printed on 100-pound, satin-finish paper. The first set – featuring Mal, Inara, Kaylee and Jayne – will be sold as set for just $29.95. That’s right, four lithographs of Serenity’s crew, painted by one of the most renowned portrait artists working today, for just under $30.

Check out the QMx Insider newsletter for a heads up on availability. QMx is having a heck of a week…
