Firefly DVDs on sale

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Ah, spring, when a young man turns to thoughts of Firefly sales.

It’s at Circuit City for $19.99 (I’ve heard reports of some lower prices - $16.99 in one place - in stores as part of a TV-on-DVD sale).

Amazon has it for $25.

So does Target online, but my local one at least has it for $17.99 again, so check your nearest store.

Buy original Serenity: Better Days art from Will Conrad

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Like Will Conrad’s art from Dark Horse’s “Serenity: Better Days” miniseries? Put it on your wall!

You can, because he’s selling it on eBay, and there’s some great stuff there. My personal favorite is on the right there; River’s fantasy. Anyone looking to buy me a present, hint hint. But the others are great, too, and you can even find some hidden details in the original artwork that were changed in the finals. Kaylee’s fantasy was a lot more explicit, for one thing…

You can find all the auctions here, with more coming. And Conrad’s answering your questions about his work at Whedonesque, here.

Last chance to buy Jayne’s shirt

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

ebay_jayneshirt.jpgAs mentioned previously, Adam Baldwin (with the help of the California Browncoats) is auctioning off 13 screen-worn Jayne T-shirts to benefit the Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation.  Next up - the second of two “Troublemaker” shirts.

This is an extremely iconic shirt, seen multiple times in Serenity, and it’s for a great cause that is very dear to Adam Baldwin’s heart. Go place your bid and do your part! This is the final shirt auction, so time is running out.

Buy cool stuff from me - Indiana Jones whip, Terminator laser

Monday, May 19th, 2008

ebay_whip.jpg

Yep, I’m selling some stuff on eBay. First up, an Indiana Jones leather whip from LucasFilm Ltd., sent to media outlets to promote “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Over 9′ long, braided leather. Gimme a sec, I’ll think of a Serenity connection somewhere.

ebay_scclaser.jpgOoh, ooh, this has a Serenity connection! This is a laser pointer thing to promote FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, featuring Summer Glau and probably some other people. This was given out for the premiere (the date is on the side).

You point it (that’s the pointy part) and you get a Terminator head overlooking the Terminator logo. Pretty cool, actually, especially if you need to startle your neighbors or freak out everyone at a party. Not for sale anywhere. Except here, of course.

More stuff coming! Bid high, and bid often.

Details about the great big QMx Serenity model

Monday, May 19th, 2008

qmx_fireflyshipworks1.jpgOK, you really need to be checking out FireflyShipWorks.com. Lots of details are coming out in the comments section. Some highlights:

- The ship will be to 1:180 scale of the size defined by the Serenity blueprints, the most accurate ones to date. The model will be 18″ long.

- Each one will be hand-cast, hand-wired, hand-assembled, hand-painted. It will be weathered appropriately, based on the surface map from the actual 3D model.

- There will be a limited number, they won’t be cheap, and they may or may not be out this year.

- The build is being done by The FX Company. This is a good thing. They’re even more scary obsessive than you are. The model itself will be made by QMx.

Go there and pester them for more answers. And demand T-shirts.

Firefly Ship Works Ltd.

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

qmx_fireflyshipworks1.jpgSome time ago, QMx mentioned an interesting project in the works: a large and detailed Serenity model. It promised to be insanely detailed and screen accurate, and I was kinda interested in a “some day” way.

Guess what they’re working on…

You can follow the progress at the just-launched Firefly Ship Works Ltd site, www.fireflyshipworks.com. Think of it as a progress diary, posting updates and sneak peeks at the ship as it’s crafted. There is no price or ship date available here (and per their policy there won’t be one until they have product in sight, keep an eye on the QMx newsletter for those details) but you’ll be able to see the amount of care and detail the designers are putting in. This will be our ship. It will be big. It will be beautiful. And it will make visitors to your house go “oooh.”

A few hints already dropped, in comments and other places: there will be working lights (including chaser lights to simulate the engine), and they’re looking at possibilities like a removable primary buffer panel.

More details as I get ‘em. Go check out the site and let ‘em know you’re out there.

If you’re gonna heist a bank, you want to dress well

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

prop_zoesuit.jpgNew at the Prop Store of London - Zoe’s outfit from the bank heist scene.

This fantastic costume was worn by Zoe (Gina Torres) in the bank heist scenes near the beginning of the film and afterwards onboard Serenity. It consists of a pair of grey/beige trousers (labelled St. Zoe) and pink coloured long sleeved top (labelled ‘Zoe’). The labelling of ‘stunt’ and NOT ‘stunt dbl’ may denote Gina wearing the costume whilst performing a stunt, though this can not be confirmed
