cftc_savefirefly.jpgThe raffle over at Cash for the Crew has new items added, so they’ve extended it another day. That means you have a little more time to make a donation to MPTF’s Work Stoppage Relief Fund, send CftC your receipt, and get entered into a raffle to win one of their great prizes such as signed scripts from Buffy, Angel, Drive, Wonderfalls, Battlestar Galactica, Scary Movie, and more. Just added:

- JERICHO - “Why We Fight” - Signed by the JERICHO writers
- “Scary Movie” - Signed by Craig Mazin
- Books “The John Lennon Affair”and “The Elvis & Marilyn Affair” - Signed by author (and WGA member) Robert S. Levinson

- Give Buffy an Emmy - For Your Consideration Ad for the BtVS episode “The Body” - Signed by Joss Whedon. Despite the fact he had burned his hands only days before, he still signed this at ComicCon

Go, donate, win something, and help the people suffering from the writers strike.

barbies_nathan.jpg

Every year, the FX Show in Orlando assembles together a pile o’ celebs, a ton of comic writers and artists, and an assortment of dealers and shoves ‘em into a room. Every year they get guests from the hottest new shows and the most beloved older ones, cult favorites that bring out devoted fans from all generations. And every year they get someone from Firefly who blows all the others away.

If you’re not interested in my play-by-play you can just check out the pics at Flickr.com. And I’ve got video of the Whedonverse Panel with Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Rohm, and Nicholas Brendon here: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4.

Rare Firefly/Serenity stuff on eBay from Geoff Mandel

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Geoff Mandel, graphic designer for Serenity, is having a Writers Strike sale on eBay and there are some tasty items indeed:

gm_tobebound.jpgAutographed Mal Cortex screenshot print - “To Be Bound,” a limited edition fine art print. This ‘Verse-style “wanted poster,” with fingerprints, retinal scan and biographical details on Malcolm Reynolds, was created for the first Firefly/Serenity convention held in the United States, and the total edition was 500. No more will ever be printed. High-quality 4/color print on heavy satin stock, 18″ x 24″. Signed and numbered by the artist with silver Sharpie at lower-right. He’s been putting more up for auction as they sell, so just go here to find them.

gm_cashymoney.jpgFirefly/Serenity money - This auction is for CASHY MONEY used on screen in the series Firefly AND the movie Serenity. These are NOT the high-quality reproductions produced by QMx, but actual prop money created for both the series and movie. VERY rare, you don’t see Firefly money very often.

gm_riverscan.jpgRiver Backlit Graphic - a backlit graphic used on screen in the movie Serenity, a one-of-a-kind collector’s item. This brain scan graphic with data on River Tam can be seen early in the film, where it is carried by Dr. Mathias. The auction is for the graphic ONLY, and does not include the lighted viewer.

There are also items from Space: Above and Beyond, NCIS, Mission Impossible 3, Star Trek Voyager, and even stuff from the Emmys!

The auctions have more details and larger pictures. Click here to see all of them. Bid quick, and bid often!

A printed Serenity in 3D, from MAKE Magazine

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

3dserenity.jpgSo this gent named RoboGeek worked at a plaxe that used a Spectrum Z510 3D printer. And whever it was worked on, they ran a test file. And his boss was also a sci-fi fan and let him run his own files though. And so, along with some funky geometrical shapes and a few other familiar looking ships, he produced this beauty from Sean Kennedy’s poly mesh.

Head over to MAKE Magazine to see his other creations, and because MAKE Magazine is just generally cool anyway.

Operation Full Burn

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

fullburn.jpgUniversal HD will be re-airing Firefly in HD again this March, and some folks were thinking it might not be a bad idea to remind UNiversal that we’re still out here and still interested in this franchise, particularly the continuing of it. And so Operation Full Burn was born.

What can you do? Easy, Just head to the Universal HD Firefly fan forums and sign up. That’s all, although you’re more than welcome to hang around and say hey to each other and to all the new fans coming from that direction. Costs you nothing and it swells the ranks over there.

Operation Full Burn details.

Hand-sculpted Zoe

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

ntoonz_zoe.jpgCheck out this cool little desktop wonder. Lanin D. Thomasma from ntoonz.com sculpts funky little pop culture statues, including several licensed lines for online comics like General Protection Fault and Accidental Centaurs, and he found out about this cool little science fiction show, you might have heard about it…

The result was this menacing marquette of a very familiar looking crewmember that he made for himself. It’s not on ntoonz.com  at the moment, but there are lots of other marquettes to look at, and you really should.

Creation Entertainment’s 2008 Firefly/Serenity con announced

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

ce_iconsshirt.jpgCreation Entertainment has announced their “Salute to Firefly and Serenity” convention, to be held November 22-23, 2008, at the Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel.

So far they have Jewel Staite lined up to guest, but I’d expect plenty more before they’re through.

They’ve also got some more stuff in their store I hadn’t seen, including a Serenity cappucchino mug, a pile of patches, and a Serenity Icons tee (pictured), and more than a few autographed photos for sale (autographs currently have free shipping).

Firefly DVDs in Blu-ray?

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

dvd_fireflydvd.jpgSpotted at Amazon: a listing for a Blu-ray edition of the Firefly DVDs.

It’s notable that there is no price, ship date, cover image or actual information available, so this is very probably Amazon being careful. But there is a place where you can ask to be notified when such a thing is available, and it might be interesting if they suddenly had a few hundred thousand people ask for it, don’t you think?
