Off to LA to march with Joss

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Updates will be spotty for the next few days, as I’m off to LA for Mutant Enemy Day, where tons of fans will show up to picket FOX Studios for the writers’ strike, accompanied by tons of ME writers and actors and some Joss guy who keeps hanging around.

me.jpgIf you can make it, look for me wandering around with a camera and a glazed expression, much like this one. Be forewarned I take no responsibility for any amount of money you’ve spent on Serenity items on my say-so. Mostly I talk about this stuff because I’ve already bought it myself.

Speaking of which, look for a review of BenBella Books newest versy release, “The Psychology of Joss Whedon,” by Joy Davidson. Just came out this week, and I’m taking my copy along on the plane to study my prey, so a review will be forthcoming when I get back. In the meantime you can get it at Amazon and at BenBella Books.

Below is the press release for Mutant Enemy Day. You can get more up to date information at the Fans4Writers.com forums under “Joss Whedon fans”.

MUTANT FANS DESCEND ON FOX
Fans of writer/creator Joss Whedon come together to show their support for the WGA.

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – Joss Whedon’s fans have become legendary for their enthusiasm, activism and outspoken support. This Friday they’ll exhibit all three as they gather together to join the picket lines of the writers’ strike.

From the very first day of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, fans of writer/creator Joss Whedon have been supporting the writers in their struggle for fair compensation. Within the first week Fans4Writers (F4W), an outreach program for fans of all movies and shows, was created to coordinate efforts to support WGA writers with “Food 4 Thought” food drops to strike lines and morale-boosting campaigns.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… an axe

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

prop_riveraxe.jpgTell me your loved one wouldn’t go crazy if he or she opened a brightly colored package on Christmas morning to find a rusty, battle-worn Reaver axe?

OK, on reflection “go crazy” might not be the reaction you want from a newly armed person…

The Prop Store of London is offering a Reaver axe, the one River used in the final scene. This is a metal “hero” weapon, meaning it was used onscreen.

It comes framed and glazed in a fantastic suede effect laser cut mount board with the movie logo and two movie stills. The display measures approx. 76cm x 46cm (30″ x 18″).

Happy holidays!

Joss and Tim Screenwriting Expo seminars on sale

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

screenwritingsale.jpg

Joss and Tim’s Screenwriting Expo DVDs are on sale for just $12.97.

Every year the Screenwriting Expo brings the best movie and TV writers together to talk to crowds about the art and craft of telling stories, and these are two of the best around. Joss spoke to a rapt crowd about genre work, how to twist a story, how to grab the viewer (read my review here). And he was introduced by Nathan Fillion, which is worth the price all by itself.

Tim got up and broke a story for an Angel script, with the help of the audience, a rare peek into what it’s like in the writers’ room of an ongoing show. Also, he’s funny (read my review here).

CreativeScreenwiting.com has the DVDs of many of their talks and expos on sale, in bundles or individually. Check ‘em out.

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

so_jaynerainbow.jpgStylin Online presents this handsome Jayne design in a babydoll fit. I’m not quite sure what message they’re presenting here - Jayne and rainbows? Really? Is extreme violence an alternative lifestyle? But it’s pretty cool nonetheless.

These Serenity Baby Tee shirts are usually made from a softer 5oz. stretchy cotton baby doll tee shirts. These Serenity Baby Tees are designed to be fitted babydoll style shirts for someone who likes to wear form fitted style of a shirt.

$18. And be sure to check out their wide line of Firefly and Serenity clothing.
