Review: Diamond Select “Inara Strikes” Statue

What are you getting for Christmas? I got a Companion…
Well, I did order one, from TFAW.com. It’s the “Inara Strikes” statue from Diamond Select Toys, and I’ve got pics.

“Inara Strikes” is part of DST’s new Serenity statue series, limited to 1,000 pieces each. She stands 7″ high and comes with a base designed after her last stand against the reavers with the rest of the Serenity’s crew in Mr. Universe’s station. There are magnets in the base and in her feet so she stays secure, but she can be easily removed and she stands very solidly on her own. This is a statue, not an action figure, but she is sized to scale with Diamond’s previous action figures of Mal, Jayne and the Reaver, and with the “River Triumphant” statue.

The sculpt by Michael Norman is fairly good, overall. The body is great, the clothing is accurate and very well shaped, especially the pants, which manage to look soft and clingy. They’re hand-painted so expect some variances. The hair is good, better than these pictures make it appear. The face is… OK. Not great, not a picture-perfect likeness of Morena Baccarin, but identifiable. On my statue her bowcaster is slightly bent.

My rating? Not bad. I’m interested in seeing all of them in a panorama, assuming DST makes statues of the rest of the crew. Next up, “Zoe’s Revenge.”
They retail $99, but TFAW.com has them for 10% off.

Man, that is one ugly statue. The face looks nothing like Morena. I loved their River Triumphant statue, but I won’t be getting this one. Ugh.

I just don’t like any of these statues. Inara looks terrible as does Zoe. And I would absolutely buy if they looked better. Oh well.

Ugh - terrible. I wouldnt know who that was supposed to be if you hadn’t told me. Won’t be getting this either, even though I have the River one (which is ace)

Thanks so much for the review! I’ve been dying to see what the final product looked like as the prototype was off. It’s not perfect, but it is an improvement over the prototype. I think the skin tone is much improved over the prototype.
I will probably buy her if I can get her on clearance, but $100 is too much. I also want to be sure that Zoe is released. I have River, but I only want Inara if Zoe is made as well. Also, I hope they continue wtih Kaylee and Simon.
