New River tee and Serenity shooter available

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

creation_rivermaltees.jpg

creation_shooters.jpgSpotted at the Creation Entertainment website: a new and cool River tee to go along with their previous new and cool Mal tee. Which is all well and good, but when do we get the rest of the cast? They are pretty cool, though.

They’ve also added the mugs and shot glasses previously spotted at TFAW.com but they’ve increased your alcoholic possibilities with Serenity shooters. And, if my eyes don’t deceive me, they’ve added more 8″x10″ photos to buy, many of which have not been offered (officially) before.

Plus they still have the cap, collectible plate, and cast tees available.

Kids Need to Read and you need a signed Serenity premiere party invitation

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

kntr_auction.jpgWant an insider pass to the hottest premiere party in Hollywood?

OK, granted, it’s two years old, but it is signed by Nathan Fillion. Makes sense, it was his pass. But if you win the auction, you’ll be helping buy books for children.

The Ninjas of NathanNation invite you to participate in our Tenth Kids Need to Read Charity Auction. To celebrate our auctions’ new home at the Kids Need to Read Community blog, we are offering a very special item- a unique signed Serenity party invitation. This is author PJ Haarsma’s personal invitation to sit at Nathan Fillion’s table at the party following the World Premiere of Serenity in 2005. It has been signed especially for Kids Need to Read by the ever-kind Nathan Fillion, making it all the more sentimental. Adding to the awesomeness of this unique Serenity collectible is the word “FILLION” splashed boldly across the bottom.

Buy an Xbox 360, get HD Serenity

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Spotted at Whedonesque: until January if you buy an Xbox 360 you’ll get 5 HD movies, including Serenity.

I can’t say I’m wildly impressed with the company our girl is keeping; the other selections are Chronicles of Riddick, Hulk, Children of Men, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Troy, Full Metal Jacket, Corpse Bride, The Prestige, Swordfish, Black Rain, Dreamgirls and World Trade Center. But hey, more chances to spread it around is always good.

Cruise with Jonathan Woodward and Sonny Rhodes

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Along with all the other great guests in the upcoming Browncoat Cruise, now they’ve added two more: Jonathan “Tracey” Woodward and Sonny “Theme Song” Rhodes, plus the previous guests Ron Glass, Michael Fairman, and The Bedlam Bards.

There are still cabins available, so if you were just waiting for one more bit of good news to make up your mind, there you go. You’re welcome.

Even if you can’t go, you might consider supporting this fan-run event by donating. While the cruise itself is a certainty — no last minute Bashing here — some problems with cruise bookings may put the organizers slightly in the red and your help would be appreciated. Donors will get listed in the Souvenier Book if they wish. I’d like to stress that this is entirely voluntary and the cruise will happen regardless. We’d just like to make sure the organizers can afford some beans afterwards.

Wave Cards for a Sequel

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

qmx_cards.jpgGot another fan campaign brewin’, folks, suggested by Companion Kate at serenitymovie.net, and Cedric of the Bedlam Bards has the best summary of it:

Ni-howdy, Browncoats,

We live in exciting times. I’m sure you know that Joss Whedon hinted that Universal would be taking a close look at Serenity Collector’s Edition sales, and that Alan Tudyk recently let it slip that there are rumblings about a sequel at Universal. Now is the time to let our voices be heard.

That’s why I’m writing to you to endorse the wavecard writing campaign recently proposed over on The Signal forum.

Basically, the idea is quite simple. Quantum Mechanix sells packs of really shiny ‘Verse-themed postcards. If you haven’t seen ‘em, check ‘em out. They’re pretty and funny.

So the plan is to order sets of these cards, write a note asking (politely) for Serenity sequel on each one, and send them to Universal at this address:

Universal Pictures
100 Universal City Plaza
Universal City, CA 91608

Why is this letter writing campaign different from those of the past?

And if you’re going to Starfury’s Serenity LA, QMx will be hosting a panel - Bringing the ‘Verse to Life - on Saturday, Nov. 3. Guests will include Serenity Graphic Designer Geoffrey Mandel, QMx artisans Adam Levermore-Rich and Ben Mund.

Alliance pistol replica on sale at eBay

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Some industrious soul is selling an all-metal Alliance pistol replica complete with light-up grip on eBay. Judging from the pics, a lot of work went into this baby. UPDATE: Apparently it was real-looking enough that eBay killed it. It’s been reposted.

It is all metal except for rubber grips,  and is aprox 11 1/2″ in length . The gun is a ‘one of’ and was custom built by a prop maker. It has a working trigger that activates the blue electroluminecent light in the grip, just as the one in the film does. This is seen near the beginning of the film when Simon helps River escape from Alliance custody. The guard that chases them into the airshaft fires this gun several times at the bullet proof glass and then pounds on it in a vain effort to prevent their escape. It requires 2 AAA batterys (included). This gun is intended as a display piece and or light handling, and is NOT suitable for cosplay or holster use. For that you would want a less expensive resin cast. Photos are of actual gun offered. The only one I have. Shiney!

As always, use your best judgment when buying from eBay.

Operative stunt sword for sale

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

prop_stuntsword.jpg

Just the bloody thing you need to hang on your bloody wall. This is one of many different versions of the Operative’s sword they made for the film, now available from The Prop Store of London. They also had Inara’s bow and arrows, but that went almost as soon as it was posted.

This resin bladed weapon has a black plastic handle with black cord inlaid to help give the user a better grip. The blade itself has a repeating rectangular pattern along the top edge which still has fake blood inside. The sword was the weapon of choice for “The Operative” and can easily be spotted in many memorable scenes. This light weight bloody stunt version of the weapon was used during scenes when a close up wasn’t needed for safety on set. It measures approximately 73cm (28.75″) in length. There is some prop blood inside the holes on the blade, and the handle has some paint chipped off from use on set.

A renewed chance to go Browncoat cruisin’

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

The word just went out that there are more open spots for the Browncoat Cruise!

Great news. It looks like Carnival has managed to open up a few more
cabins for us. So if you missed your opportunity to join us for
Browncoat Cruise, now is your last chance.

There is one catch, they can’t hold the rooms for us for much longer,
so please contact us immediately and let us know if you are interested.

Also, the price is a bit more that it was earlier this year, because
we have to pay the current rate.

We don’t have our store updated with the new prices, but prices will
range between $920 and $1399 per person depending on the room type you
choose.

So please help us get back into the black and snatch up these few
cabins while they are still available. Please email if you are
interested and we will get you on the list, and arrange payment right
away.
