Serenity 2?

dvd_serenitycollectors.jpgMost likely you've seen the rumors. Every Browncoat site I know has gone into high alert; Browncoats everywhere are suddenly saying their prayers, rubbing their beads, crossing their fingers, and trying really, really hard to be cynical.

See, Alan Tudyk did an interview with Moviehole and this happened:

“They had to put [the new DVD] out because they’ve been selling out of the other one [the DVD that isn't the 'Collectors Edition'] and so Universal’s like ‘So, let’s do another one’", he says, adding "And now… there’s now a chance there’s going to be another movie”.

Tudyk agrees that even if it was a direct-to-DVD movie, it’d still be worthwhile. Especially since the whole DVD sequel is a big trend.

“It really is”, says Tudyk. “Everybody in the Firefly crew – and that includes the ones who died in the movie – are excited about the prospect of doing another”.

Nathan Fillion, says Tudyk, is especially keen. “We were out a couple of weeks ago together at a party and there was a bunch of people there, and he was like ‘Oh, look we’re Browncoats”.

Now this is hardly an official announcement. No one else has stepped forward with any definite news. But, you know, Joss has said sales of the CE DVD might make the difference, and straight-to-DVD sequels are hot right now, and…

And we still don't know. To the folks who have written me and asked, sorry, I got no inside information. But if you wanted to be doing something, might I suggest we start pushing the CE DVD even harder? Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell the guys you bowl with. Just yesterday I loaned my "Firefly" set to a coworker who's rapidly turning into a fan (Yes, I keep a set at work. Don't you?).

Buy some for presents. Send some to soldiers. Get an extra one for upstairs. Buy one for your local library. Donate copies to your local firefighters. Check out 11th Hour's great new bookmarks, with lots of suggestions on how to spread the word. In fact, check out the Guerilla Marketing section of FireflyFans.net for some more excellent ideas.

And consider writing Universal. I don't mean flooding them with open begging — although that might help, ya never know. No, just write and thank them for producing the special edition DVD, and mention your hope that more Serenity could happen. Stop by Universal's Firefly forum and let them know.

And buy another copy.

Maybe FOX might say they made a mistake, and do more Firefly……Alright stop laughing!

Any new Serenity movies would be great. I hope it comes true, and it would be great if Wash and Book could haunt the ship.

Got to get back to watching the CE of Serenity, I am half way now, bye!

What, the seven copies I already bought aren't enough? ;)

(Sound of tires screeching as I head to Best Buy, cash in hand)

  • Jim in St. Louis says:

I hope this rumor is true. According to the article, Alan Tudyk would be making I Robot II before any Serenity/Firefly project so we are probably talking 4-5 years before we see anything. I guess that is still better than never.

On a side note, (which may have been covered already elsewhere) in the extra features of the CE DVD, they label Ron Glass' character as "Shepherd MERIA Book", not Derrial Book. Is this a misprint or am I missing some Serenity back story? It's hard to believe Joss Whedon would miss something like that.

*Hurries off to order a CE version*

  • sh!ny says:

Way too early for any story speculation, but are we talking prequel? Between Firefly and Serenity? I'm just amped we are actually in the capacity to talk about this.

Jim, it's been reported that both Book and Zoe underwent name changes, Book from Meria to Derrial, and Zoe's maiden name from Warren to Alleyne.
