Firefly for Firefighters

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Posted at the SciFi.com Firefly forum, this cool new project:

As might have been mentioned, elsewhere, I was inspired by what einaphets posted about getting a copy of the BDCE for her hubby’s fire station.

“Firefly for Firefighters” is the idea which has grown from that small gesture.

Every community, in the US and pretty much anywhere else I can think of, has at least one fire station, most of them manned 24 hours. The firefighters there are real life Big **** Heroes, but, aside from the occasional tragic occurrence, don’t get much recognition for looking out for every one of us, all the time. As such, they spend a lot of time waiting for trouble to arise, and, between station-house duties and calls, have a good amount of time on their hands.

Firefighters deserve the chance to become Browncoats. Likely, many already are, but, many more are not.

That’s where “Firefly for Firefighters” comes in.

Be a groupie, not a viking

groupietee.jpg

Being a groupie is a powerful, emotional thing. It requires fortitude, perseverance, devotion, and blind and possibly silent obedience, especially when the object of your groupiehood is smoking hot and very particular. The rewards are great. Be a groupie, and be (silently) proud.

But not, and let me make this clear, any sort of Viking.

OK, it’s not Firefly or Serenity related, unless I missed something in the backgrounds. But I’d guess a lot of Browncoats are loving Joss’ comic Sugarshock over at www.myspace.com/darkhorsepresents (and if you haven’t seen it, your life until now has been barren and wasted) and I wanted to pass along my new shirt design. Besides, it’s my site, so neener neener neener.

Kissy th’ face!

Firefly is Amazon’s Deal of the Day

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Because Amazon knows a good thing when they see it, they made the Firefly DVD set their Deal of the Day today.

Just $19.99 for the best show you’ll ever see. I think that’s fair.

Win a misprinted Blue Sun Travel poster set, updated

tfaw_winaposterset.jpg

UPDATED: The contest has changed; no registration necessary. Read on!

So, QMx hired Adam from BlackMarketBeagles.com to create some stunning posters advertising places around the ‘verse, which Adam, being a freaking genius, did. And one of them was named “Londinum,” just as it was listed in the script for the pilot episode “Serenity” and in every scrap of background material that could be verified. And it was good. And after it was printed, even Joss said it was good.

He also said it was supposed to be “Londinium.”

Which meant that QMx had a print run with a misprinted poster. They offered 300 of them to the California Browncoats to sell at the San Diego Comic Con and they sold quite well indeed. And they made a corrected print run and sold those, and they also sold very well indeed. And now you have a variety of options available to you, the discerning Browncoat. You can buy the official Blue Sun Travel Poster set (with the “Londinium” poster)at TFAW.com or at QMx. You can buy the one of the original misprint sets from TFAW.com, but they only have a few left, if any. QMx is now offering just the misprint poster by itself as a limited edition art print in case you want all the posters and don’t want to buy two whole sets.

Or you can win one of the hard-to-find misprint sets right here from SerenityStuff.com and TFAW.com. I’m giving one away at midnight EST September 15, and all you have to do to enter is to comment on something here at SerenityStuff.com. Anything, really. Just post a comment somewhere and I’ll draw from those names at random. Please use an e-mail address that will actually get back to you, as that’s how I’ll be contacting the winner. Your info will not be used for any other purpose. US and Canada only, please, unless you’re willing to pop for postage.

The Blue Sun Travel Poster set contains 5 full-color, 17? x 22? prints on 100-pound, satin-finish paper. Included in the set are posters inviting you to travel to historic Serenity Valley, tranquil Miranda, exciting Persephone, beautiful Sihnon and awe-inspiring Londinum.

prop_badgeartwork.jpg

Looks like The Prop Store of London has opened another trunk of Serenity props. This time they’re offering a beautiful piece, a set of production artwork for the Alliance badges.

These badges can be seen on the Alliance guard’s and security uniforms throughout the film. The set of three pieces of paperwork are printed on white paper measuring 28cm x 21.5cm (11” x 8.25”) and two on 43cm x 28cm (17” x 11”).

Prop replica folks, take note!

School screen and stylus display

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

prop_stylusdisplay.jpgPick up this cool display of the school screen seen on the desks at River’s class during her flashbacks. The screen was designed by Geoff Mandel, and the stylus is just plain cool.

The screen is made from plastic and has several different Chinese characters printed on it. The stylus is made from wood with clear Perspex points at either end. They come framed and glazed in a fantastic suede effect laser cut mount board with the movie logo and two screen stills. The display measures approx. 59cm x 43.5m (23″ x 17″).

Jayne’s pin-up tee on sale

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

prop_girlshirt.jpgNot a good duplicate mind you, but the one Adam Baldwin wore.

Jayne can be seen wearing this style of brown t-shirt with colourful design of a posing lady on the front in the Maidenhead bar scenes when River displays some of her more antisocial qualities. It comes custom framed with a laser cut mount board featuring the film’s title and two movie stills showing the actor wearing the t-shirt. The display measures 83cm x 104cm (32.5″ x 41″)

QMx offering limited edition “Londinum” poster art print

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

qmx_londinum.jpgRemember those “Londinum” posters in QMx’s Blue Sun Travel Poster sets that turned out to be spelled wrong? The ones they offered at the San Diego Comic Con anyway? Now you can order one of them for your very own!

A funny thing happened on our way to Comic-Con International 2007 in San Diego. It seems a certain Mr. Joss Whedon - you know, that fellow who created a little thing called Firefly and Serenity - found a small problem with one of our preproduction Blue Sun Travel posters the California Browncoats were selling at the show. The hitch? Well, in Joss’ own words, posted on Whedonesque.com:

“Wow. Those are extremely cool. Masterfully designed.
But it’s ‘Londinium.’
But they’re really great!”

Needless to say, we brought production to a screeching halt. We then changed the final version of the poster to include the second “i” - but not before some of those preproduction sets made it into the hands of a lucky few Browncoats.

Some of you have taken issue with this. You’re just a bit miffed that you can’t get the “One -Eye” Londinum art print anymore. Well, we aim to fix that with 1,000 numbered prints of old One-Eye. We’re introducing these at a very low price for a numbered limited edition: just $19.95. Same 17″ x 22″ size and same high quality, 100-pound, satin finish paper as our retail travel posters.

The plates have been destroyed - when these are gone they’re gone forever. So get yourself a copy of our favorite mistake before they’re no more.

Head to Quantum Mechanix and check ‘em out. If you’re interested in getting one of the original misprint sets with all the other posters plus the Londinum one, TFAW.com has a few left. And if you haven’t gotten your set yet with the corrected poster, stop by QMx or TFAW.com.
