Win a Serenity Collector’s Edition DVD
In one day the Serenity CE shot up in Amazon’s sales rankings from #51 to #11. I see this as a good sign, probably due to Universal’s increased advertising, IGN’s great review, and Amazon’s “By the way” e-mail to Firefly-purchasers (and, of course, my nagging).
And yet, it’s still not enough. The word must be spread. So I’m offering a bribe.
Post about the new Serenity DVD on your blog, on forums, in comments sections. Post a review at an online bookstore or music shop or Netflix. And comment here to let me know about it. I’ll draw a winner at random from the comments and send a DVD your way.
However, don’t spam anybody. No mass e-mails, no mass posting in forums. All you’ll do is annoy people and annoyed people won’t buy the DVD. Stick with your own blog/MySpace/LiveJournal/whatever, and forums and other places where a mention of this great new DVD would be appropriate. Spamming will get you disqualified.
The winner will be drawn at 11:59 pm EST Aug. 20, so you’ll know by Tuesday morning if you’ve won or if you need to go buy a copy. (If you win, buy a copy anyway) If you need talking points, feel free to copy from (or just link to) 25 Reasons Why You Should Buy the Serenity Collector’s Edition DVD or Serenity Collector’s Edition DVD - What’s new, what’s not. If the place allows it (not all review sites do) You can also link to the Amazon page, or TFAW.com, or your favorite online seller, or the Universal page, or SerenityMovie.com, or anywhere else where folks can get more info or buy a copy.
Then come back to this post and put the link in the comments. Be sure to include your e-mail address so I can get to you. If you’d rather not make your e-mail public, post the link in the commetns and then send a copy to cabridges @ gmail.com.

Hey Chris! Great idea. I posted on a forum of LARPers. I cannot give you the link because access to their forums are exclusive to those who have done their Larps. On a side note, about 40% of those on the forums are browncoat converts. Anyways, here’s what I posted there:
Serenity special edition comes out in one week. Joss himself has said that he may do a serenity II. However, that all depends on how well Serenity special edition does. Word of advice all who enjoyed Firefly: buy the special edition DVD. It does includes several deleted scenes that weren’t on the normal DVD.
I couldn’t post a link because the site forbids it, and since I’m a moderator there, that would be a real good way to get banned.

An idea to help boost sales of the Serenity Collector’s Edition DVD so as to help get the sequel made
Early this year, I read an interview with an executive at Universal about a Serenity sequel; she said that they were keeping an eye on DVD sales. Joss Whedon, in a very recent interview, said that good sales of the Serenity Collector’s Edition DVD will be our last chance to see the sequel. So, what should we do?
Buy the DVD, of course. But, what else?
How about going to our local public libraries to fill out purchase request forms? Not all the libraries will purchase it, but many of those which might not have will buy it if we do this. There are many thousands of public libraries across the country, and if we can get a sizeable fraction of them to make the purchase, it will add noticeably to sales totals. All it takes is a short trip to our local libraries and a few minutes to fill out the form. And if several people do so at the same library, they are more likely to make that purchase, so we should consider trying to get our friends to do the same even if they live in the same town.
The better this DVD sells, the better the chance of a Serenity sequel. Possibly direct-to-DVD rather than a theatrical release, but that will be fine, too. Consider how many other movies have had sequels made because of DVD or video sales. Highlander did poorly at the box office, but sold so well on video that it spawned sequels in the form of theatrical movies (with a new one coming up), TV series, a cartoon, and a recent anime movie on DVD. Movies such as The Prophecy, Darkman, Mimic, and many more have spawned numerous direct-to-DVD sequels. A Serenity sequel will sell better than those, and make the studio a nice profit…but we have to make sure that the studio execs are reminded that that profit is there for them to receive by making sure that the Serenity Collector’s Edition sells very well. They’ll get what they want, and we’ll get what we want…
I’m going to fill out that purchase request form at my local library tonight , and have already spoken with friends about doing the same. I will also – of course – be purchasing a copy of the DVD for myself the day it comes out (or I will pre-order it beforehand).
Also, if there are any special events coming up where we’re purchasing gifts for people who are also SF fans or movie fans, we should consider the Serenity Collector’s Edition DVD. Any other suggestions?
