Saffron Original - Devil in Red by River and the Reavers

Friday, June 29th, 2007

“Devil in Red” by River and the Reavers
(Listen to it here)

She waits like a lion in the grass
Anxious hours wasted waiting to attack

It’s been easy come and easy go
But every time it happens the empty seems to grow

But, Oh! to dance
With flowered hair
To drink the wine
Forever mine

“Time to Run” by The Persephone Pickers
(Listen to it here)

what’s in your mind is:
‘what’s in it for me’
you’re never satisfied
i guess you’ll never be
your beauty’s betraying
like a siren’s song
you try to stay
but you can’t stay long

Saffron Original - Undressed by Zane Stafford

Friday, June 29th, 2007

“Undressed” by Zane Stafford
(Listen to it here)

There upon the lips
That melt good hearts and sink their ships
I started falling
Then I stopped falling
For your naiveté undressed
The cellar door, the elder’s best
As your true colors had their say
And the lights around me faded away

First review of the Serenity PVC figures

Friday, June 29th, 2007

dh_pvcfigures.jpg

Mark at SerenityCollectors.com just posted a very detailed review, with pictures, of the PVC figure set coming out from Dark Horse in August. The consensus? Excellent detailing on the stances and clothing, pretty good likenesses (and the best Mal yet), and a really cool base for each one.

“The face is also a good likeness of Mal. If you look close, you can see that little smirk that we have seen all too many times. I was not looking for a dead on human sculpt on something so small, but I did want to see “Mal” from it, and you do with the nose, smirk, and lips. You need to take into account that the head is smaller than a United States dime.”

The set is available for preorder from TFAW.com (20% off retail) and Razor’s Edge Collectibles, or check with your local comics shop and get your order in now.

QMx nabs Whitefall as their first official Artisan

Friday, June 29th, 2007

The truth is out! QMx just sent out this press release:

Quantum Mechanix Inc. (QMx), a privately-held developer of licensed, high-quality entertainment replicas, today announced that Ben Mund, better known by the alias “Whitefall,” has been “bound by law and sentenced to hard labor” as the first QMx Artisan.

Mund, who is best known for his many beautiful, highly detailed tributes to Firefly and Serenity, has an extensive background in visual design and a real passion for the science fiction genre.

Mund has spent the last 15 years as a corporate graphics designer and marketer in the CAD/CAM industry. He has been a paper prop designer for nearly two decades and discovered the larger prop community within the last ten years. “The work that I’ve truly loved - creating screen-accurate paper props - has been outside of my professional life until now,” Mund said. “I’ve used prop design as a tool for keeping my skills sharp and because it lets me play with fantastic designs that I would never get to work with otherwise.”

Saffron Filk - Devil Woman by Kara Clark

Friday, June 29th, 2007

“Devil Woman”
(to the tune of “Witchy Woman” by The Eagles)
by Kara Clark

Crimson hair and deadly lips,
Sin in the curve of her hips.

Just listen to her plan,
She’s a vixen virgin with a foolproof scam.

Mmm, hmm, devil woman, see how fast they fall.
Mmm, hmm, devil woman, she’ll make you risk it all.

Even our Mal believed her lie,
With Bible quotes and a downcast eye.

Another husband, another moon,
Driving men to madness,
And leaving so soon.

Mmm, hmm, devil woman, see how fast they fall.
Mmm, hmm, devil woman, she’ll make you risk it all.

Well, I know it’s dangerous, but
I like her Earth That Was. She’s fire and
I want to get burned.

She’s fast talk with a lot of wiggle
In her walk.

Oh, it might not last, Saffron and I,
But it’d be worth the price.

Mmm, hmm, devil woman, see how fast they fall.
Mmm, hmm, devil woman, she’ll make you risk it all.

From the creator:

“Been a fan since the original airings, and happily part of the crazy folks that have gone to Vegas for a Casino Job, and a Sindig, respectively. Going to branch out and make it to Dragon*Con this year. Will be my first Con, I can’t wait. Incidentally, I am costuming as YoSaffBrige…”

Saffron Filk - Saffron by Heather Daniel

“Saffron”
(to the tune of “Evil Ways” by Santana)
by Heather Daniel

You’ve got a lot of evil ways….Saffron
You gave Mal a good-night kiss
You stole his shuttle….Saffron
And you led his crew amiss
You left them running and shouting
All about you
Mal went looking and searching
He finally found
And knocked you out
Don’t cross the crew again….Saffron

Freaking at the Reaver ball

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

prop_reaverball.jpg

A popular and economical gang weapon was to stick a bunch of double-edged razor blades into a potato. Easy to make, very dangerous, easy to toss into the gutter if the cops came.

The Reavers just took it a step farther, that’s all. They’re cunning little cannibalistic barbarians, aren’t they?

The Reavers used these vicious looking weapons in the final battle scene of the film. This is a hero version made from brown modeller’s clay with actual hard resin spikes sticking out of it, painted to resemble metal, this would never have been thrown during filming for safety reasons. Measures 13cm (5″) in diameter. Must be over 18 years of age to purchase this item.
