Sunday, May 6th, 2007

10thcrew_bupdate.jpgThe latest expansion pack for BWAH!, 10th Crewmember’s free and ever-growing card game, is now available: “BWAH! Those Left Behind.”

This expansion set adds new cards to the already exciting BWAH! card game. In addition to the 15 new Character cards, there are 36 additional Action cards. Also included are 3 shiny first-time-ever Create Your Own Local Color Character Cards you can use to make a character you don’t have, or to add yourself to the game! Just add them to your current BWAH! decks and shuffle!

There’s also some rules clarifications and a new symbol to keep track of. This set introduces characters, settings, and events from the comic mini-series “Those Left Behind.” You’ll need the original game to play, and once you see the other expansion packs you’ll be eaten alive with jealousy until you get them, so grab ‘em all! Free Comic Book Day!

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

FCBD07_horiz_2.jpg

Free comic books! For the sixth year in a row, comics companies and shops are banding together to offer free samples of their wares to build up interest in the art form. Hopefully people will take time enough away from watching “Spider-Man 3″ over and over to stop by. And so should you! Why?

1. Free comics!

fcbd_loneranger.jpg2. Whedony connections. Availability will change from store to store, but one of the books being offered is Dynamite Entertainment’s Lone Ranger/Battlestar Galactica Flip Book, with a Lone Ranger story by Brett (”Heart of Gold,” “Serenity: Those Left Behind”) Matthews, cover by John (”Astonishing X-Men”) Cassaday. It’s not a Serenity comic but it’s as close as you’ll get till this fall. See a preview here!

3. Free comics!

4. Excellent free comics. Not just cheesy promo giveaways (although there’s plenty of those, too), there will be stuff to check out like The Unseen Peanuts, Pirates vs Ninjas, Lynda Barry Sampler, Wahoo Morries, samplers from Wizard’s How to Draw series and Keenspot and Digital Webring and jam comics from lots of indie companies as well as Spidey and JLA books from the big two.

5. Free comics!

Check your local comic store, or head to Free Comic Book Day for details.

Whitefall grabbed up by QMx?

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Regular readers know that Whitefall, an amateur prop replica maker and Serenity enthusiast (”enthusiast” here meaning “scary obsessive, in a good way”), has turned out some truly astounding stuff for Browncoats. Even Serenity graphic designer Geoff Mandel singled him out for praise in his interview. And now his work is apparently moving out of the gray area of fan-made work to become official, licensed material from QMx, according to this source. No official announcements yet, but here’s hoping…
