Firefly Companion Vol. 2 - You want it. Trust me.

Monday, April 30th, 2007

titan_fireflycompanionvol2.jpgThis afternoon I received a copy of Titan Books’ Firefly Companion Vol. 2. I just absorbed the whole thing (with a break for “Heroes”). And I can tell you honestly, without fear of understatement, that you desperately need this.

If you’ve seen their previous Companions you know generally what to expect. Scripts, behind-the-scenes photos, interviews with cast and crew, etc. They got better every time. Also, bigger: the Serenity Companion was 158 pages, the first Firefly Companion was 176 pages, this one is 208. And every page is crammed.

titan2_page3.jpgAs I said for the last one, I’m a Firefly whore. The reason I started this site was because I was obsessively hunting down everything and anything Firefly, interviews and articles and essays and more, and I figured I might as well point other people to what I found. I’m about as versed on obscure show trivia as possible for someone who didn’t actually work on the show. And I still learned something new on every other damn page.

Can’t Stop the Serenity in Second Life

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

sl_csts.jpg

This June, Browncoats around the world will be gathering once again to watch the Big Damn Movie on the big screen and raise money for charity. “Can’t Stop the Serenity” raised over $65,000 for Equality Now last year and this year they’re shooting for 50 theaters in Australia, Austria, England, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, France, and the U.S.

Unfortunately, it won’t be showing in Second Life despite efforts by rikomatic and others (since we would be streaming the DVD, instead of the actual movie print, which involves different companies and licenses). Fortunately, we can still promote it and raise money for the cause.

So I’m proud to announce that official Can’t Stop the Serenity t-shirts and posters are now available at Big Red Button in Washtown, Second Life’s largest Browncoat settlement. Posters are $100L and tees are $200L (roughly 50 cents and a buck US$, respectively), with 100% of sales going to Equality Now.

Get more details on your local showing (and info on ordering real posters and tees) from the Can’t Stop the Serenity site.

Serenity money packs still available

qmx-serenitymoneypack.jpg

True, QMx is sold out, but you can still find some of the official Serenity money packs around if you try. TFAW.com has some for $20.24. KM Collectables has ‘em for $35.99. Some Google searches will probably bring up more, and you should check your local comic shop. And you know there’s plenty at eBay

Updated: Countdown Creations is selling them through Amazon. Thanks for the tip!

Buffy print signed by Joss and Jo Chen

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

buffy_signedprint.jpgOK, I’m stretching a little here, since it’s not a Serenity item. But this 18″x24″ print of the cover of Buffy #1  is signed by Joss and Jo Chen, who did the Kaylee cover for the Serenity comics, and Buffy was wearing a Serenity t-shirt in the first issue of her new comic, and and and…

OK, I just thought it was cool. If the price is too high you can also get the print signed by just Jo Chen.

Get Firefly for 18 bucks at Target

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

Just came from a local Target and they had “Firefly” on sale for $17.99. It’s store-only, the website still has it for thirty. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it that cheap. Anybody out there finding the same price?

Alliance pistol replica on eBay

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

ebay_alliancepistol1.jpg

Sorry for the short notice — got a heads-up but didn’t see it till now — but you’ve still got a few hours to bid on a pretty sweet Alliance pistol replica on eBay.

Made from a paintball gun, it’s chromed and aluminum with an illuminated section. Nicely made, perfect for Serenity RPing, cosplaying, or just displaying.

How to treat your Serenity blueprints

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

Uncertain how best to enjoy your shiny new Serenity blueprints from QMx? Erin Palette has some tips.

First, you must create a sacred space. Remove all elements hostile to Firefly, Serenity, and Joss Whedon from the room. This includes any item with the word “Fox” in its name or on its container. (Naturally, your Firefly DVDs and CDs are exempt from this stricture, as they have already been purified by the Holy Name of Joss.)

The ‘Verse on MySpace

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Dunno if you’ve been checking, but there’s a fair amount of the ‘verse on MySpace.

CAST
Among the zillions of wannabes, imposters, and sincere but unofficial fan and tribute sites, there are some actual Big Damn Heroes out there.
Nathan Fillion - Captain, our captain, and semi-regular blogger. His posts don’t appear often, but when they do they’re long and rambling and hilarious. I joined MySpace specifically to read his entries and I’m very glad I did. And so should you.
Jewel Staite - Not as bubbly as Kaylee in real life, but every bit as cute and now we get to hear about her career, her husband, her love of “Lost” and shoes, and how she unwinds after a hard day (hint: it involves “Lost.” And shoes.)
Mark Sheppard - Our loveable, utterly untrustworthy businessman Badger is there as well. Not many posts, but he does keep you updated on his career. Currently he’s popping up in BattleStar Galactica and will be in the pilot for “The Bionic Woman.”
Gregg Lee Henry - The sheriff from “The Train Job,” and the mayor from “Slither,” among many other roles. He blogs off and on, and he has a music page with some of his own pieces on it.
Rafael Feldman - Fanty from “Serenity” (the prettier one). Occasional posts about his doings and indy projects.
Michael Hitchcock - Dr. Matthais from “Serenity.” No blog entries I noticed, but he does check in.

But it doesn’t stop there. Look what else you can find!
