Virtual mud farmers, unite

Here at the mud farms of Canton they pay their workers almost nothing, so they can pass the savings on to you, the customer. Of course, there’s this pesky mythic hero thing they’ve got going…

sl_jaynestown_002.jpgA group from the Miranda Survivors of Second Life have been working on making their own Jaynestown, and they’re having way too much fun doing it. Pictured are Red Rogers, Abby Dawson (she of the virtual Firefly build), aenea Erlanger, Sirk Sumbula, and Elsbeth McConachie. Not pictured is Merasu Acropolis. With an only slightly drunken attention to detail — or possibly an attention to drunken detail — they have filled in the area with everything mud farmers could possibly need. Above is the mud itself, complete with frogs and mud wrestling options.

Jayne hats, ice planets, and plushies

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

tl_plushies.jpgGood news! The seemingly tireless Maggie Burns stopped making Jayne hats but others have picked up the yarn and carried on, such as the good folks at this-land.net. Ready-made hand-made wooly ear warmers, just in time for cooler weather.

But they didn’t stop there. There’sĀ also a Browncoat hat (green and yellow, with a star), an ice planet (non-edible, sorry) and plushie versions of our heroes (pictured). Only River and Kaylee (in jumpsuit and cake dress) pictured so far, but they advertise talking versions as well.

prop_riversword.jpgJust when you thought The Prop Store of London had run out of new Serenity props, they whip out another one. In this case, River’s sword from the final battle.

This is one of the weapons wielded by Summer Glau onscreen and in the UK poster. Metal blade with battle-scar grooves. Comes on a laser-cut mount board with the movie logo and some film stills. If you own one of the prop axes, you need this. It’s a moral imperative.

(If, however, you like the look but will settle for a cheaper, non-authentic blade, check out the replica versions)
