Apparently Capissen 38s are OK on the ground

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

capissen38.jpgEvery now and then someone comes aong with something that makes me feel much less obsessed, and this time it’s Phil Teller and his Firefly/Serenity-inspired car.

With elements from the show, the movie, specific episodes, and anything else he could weld on, this magnificently beat-up craft has everything you need to outwit the Alliance and move freight past the Reavers, or vice versa. Check out the attention to details — dinos on the dashboard! a winch lever on the back! — and the firing sequence, and see if you don’t start eyeing your Honda Accord with that “hmmm” look.

Firefly DVDs on sale at WalMart

Friday, December 29th, 2006

fireflydvds.jpgDunno if they’re in sale in the stores — anyone know? — but at the website you can get ‘em for $19.88.

Also, right now shipping is 97 cents for their DVDs. Just sayin’.

Firefly tops the charts at Amazon, again

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

fireflydvds.jpgI think Amazon’s figured this out. Whenever they need to bump up DVD sales they just put the Firefly DVD set on sale again. Since they did, the Big Damn Season soared back up and is currently hovering up around 2nd or 3rd in sales, right behind “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Pirates of the Caribbean II”. And those numbers are after the holidays, so people must be putting their new Amazon gift cards to good use. This has got to be some kind of record; has any DVD had so many comebacks?

The price is back up to “only” ten bucks off. Maybe they’re hoping to bump the profit margin while sales are high during their big TV on DVD sale, which features Firefly as the first one listed (along with a lot of great deals on other Whedony show sets).  Doesn’t matter. If we slip back down in the rankings, it’s OK.

We’ll be back.

wf_Badger_Bulletin.jpg

Now you can wave your own paperwork in the face of stuck-up smugglers and pretentious captains with this prop replica from Whitefall. The Eavesdown Banner, with important news about shipments, tariffs, inspections, and cocky Firefly ships what come afoul of the law when they’re supposed to be bringing you your stuff all quiet-like.

Download it here. It’s almost 3 megs, sized to print nicely.

serenity_dvduk.jpgBritish Browncoats, you got a good thing going on. The Serenity DVD is currently on sale at ChoicesUK.com at £3.99, with free delivery in the UK.

That’s £16.00 off the regular price, which, if I remember my currency exchanges corrctly, is a bunch of dough.

All you need is gloves

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

prop_BlackGloves.jpgJayne’s gloves, that is, as seen when Jayne is cleaning up the cargo hold after the barn swallow scene. The Prop Store of London’s got ‘em, and they can be yours.

Black suede gloves with a cotton lining and cargo area dust intact.

More details on the Reaverized Serenity ornament

tfaw_ornamentvariant.jpg

Dark Horse has started officially promoting this bloody little beauty, and it turns out that pre-ordering will be the only way to get one.

Due to overwhelming demand, we are creating a special variant edition of one of our most popular new releases, the Serenity ornament. This will be a special release, and will be limited to advance orders only. No reprints or reorders.

[...]

We will accept orders for this item until March 1, 2007, and will then set the production run. That’s it. We will not go back into production on this variant ship after that.

The final version of the “Serenity in Disguise variant ornament” may vary from the photo, but the description is “Serenity splashed with blood, with a grill of skeletons in front and a Jayne-powered turret on top.” What’s not to love? Pre-order it now (and get 10% off), and it should ship in May 2007. Some of ther smarter shops will probably order extra for stock, but the regular one sold out at least once so don’t expect to see any of these on shelves. Order now!

Overstock sale at Black Market Beagles

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

bc-poster.jpgAdam took plenty of merchandise to the Flanvention, but he was kinda busy that weekend. You know, whipping up a replacement convention at a moment’s notice (along with several other valiant Browncoats and stars). So he’s got a lot of stuff left over and it’s all on sale for a limited time. Some of these items are not offered at his main store anymore, so this could be you last chance to get any of the wonderful Little Damn Heroes designs.

Also available: the Browncoats poster (seen above) he premiered at the Backup Bash. Designed from hundreds of familiar quotes, fan names, event titles, and more, it’s an elegant piece that will have you squinting for weeks to see if you’re in there…

Win a free trip to the 2007 San Diego Comic Con

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

comicon.jpgOK, it’s not specifically Firefly related, but there’s always tons of versy stuff at the San Diego Comic Con, one of the hugest and busiest comic conventions around. And now you can go for free, maybe!

Things From Another World is giving away two tickets, with accomodations, for next year’s event. You get round-trip airfare for two from any location in the continental US to San Diego, California, hotel accommodations for two, and two SDCC entry tickets. All you have to do to enter is to sign up for their newsletter, and since they’ve been offering some great deals on Serenity items lately that ain’t a bad thing.

Winners will be chosen from the list of valid subscribers, so if you’re already signed up you should be good to go. You can find more information about the con here; no Firefly cast members listed at the moment, but keep checking back.

Songs from the Black, a free CD from The Signal

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

songsfromtheblack.jpgThis week The Signal podcast went all-music and, like the utterly cool people they are, they’re offering free downloads of all the songs for all you lucky Browncoats. Head to the show notes for the episode and just gaze at all the ways you can get the tunes. You can download the entire podcast, or get the songs as a podcast feed, or download them all individually. Whichever one you pick, you’ll enjoy this.

The Ballad. Instrumental pieces. Reworked songs from the show, and songs inspired by the ‘verse. Adam’s “Hero of Canton” put to music. Some of these you’ve heard, whether during previous podcasts or elsewhere on the cortex. Some of them have never been released before. And they’ve included PDFs of CD cover art, should you be so inclined to burn copies.

Big thanks to The Signal for doing this!
