sl_bigredbutton.jpg

The Big Red Button store in Second Life has moved to Washtown! All your favorite shiny virtual places are now within easy walking distance!

Second Life is an immersive 3D experience wherein you create an avatar and explore, make friends, sell stuff, buy stuff, and party a lot. Or, if you’re a Browncoat, you find other Browncoats and congregate. Me being me, I set up a store to promote Firefly and Serenity related virtual merchandise. Go figure.

Recycled Serenity billboard handbags

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Ecoist uses recycled and organic materials to make Earth-conscious and funky fashion accessories. And one of the product lines includes handbags, messenger bags, and wallets made from recycled movie billboards, and there’s this movie that some of us like…

Here’s what they currently have. I have no idea if they swap out designs, but I would imagine their quantities would of necessity have to be limited.

Flanvention II to be cancelled?

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

flanvention2.jpgUpdated with new info at the bottom.

After some problems with Nathan Fillion publicly asking why he hadn’t been formally invited to the upcoming Flanvention that was advertising his appearance (since cleared up, more or less), this popped up at the Flanvention II forums:

Boosters is experiencing financial difficulties. We are doing everything in our power to facilitate Flan 2, but at this point, it is uncertain that we will be able to obtain financing in time for the event. We will update you daily in the Flan 2 forum. Anyone with airline tickets who might want to cancel, will need to do so immediately. If we are unable to obtain the needed financing by Friday, Dec. 1st, the event will be cancelled.

As many Browncoats have already made plans to arrive from around the world for this sold out event, many with difficult-to-change plans, this is a real kick in the face. Adam from BlackMarketBeagles.com and the California Browncoats sent me this:

Attention all Browncoats planning on attending Flanvention 2

We are all a little disconcerted by the update from Booster regarding the possible cancellation of Flan2. Many people have expressed concern at their un-cancelable reservations (airfare and hotel), and some are considering attending anyway.

With this in mind, the California Browncoats are willing to step up and make sure that those who choose to come out anyway, will have something to do when they get here. To do this successfully on such short notice we need to coordinate efforts, make sure there’s someone who knows what’s going on, and can coordinate efforts effectively, without a lot of duplication, mixed messages, or confusion.

If you are interested in helping, have already gathered information, or just want to know what’s going on, please contact Adam Levermore-Rich (lexigeek on the boards) at adam.levermorerich at gmail dot com so we can get an idea of what’s happened already, we would greatly appreciate it.

Also, if you’re planning on going come hellmouth or high water, please also let us know so we have an idea of how many people we need to plan for. Any information you have about your room reservations (number of rooms/number of nights) would also help us negotiate with the Hilton.

Thank you for all your help! Please re-post this so we can start channeling all this stupendous energy into creating a positive experience for everyone.

Keep checking back here for updates.

Keep an eye on the Whedonesque thread where updated news is being added, and the news blog Gossi set up at http://flanventionhelpline.blogspot.com .

There will be one more printing made and then that’s it, folks, so if you want the shirt that Jayne Cobb himself loves — just check the pic on the site if you don’t believe me — you’ll be wanting to place your orders now.

New images from QMx

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Just received some new pics of the replica Serenity stuff coming out from QMx. Heed the words of Andy Gore:

qmx_DSC03111.jpg

qmx_b.jpg“Hey Chris! Just wanted to let you know it’s a matter of days now before the first Fan Club Exclusive Serenity Money Packs ship (They should start shipping to customers about a week after Thanksgiving.) To celebrate, QMx’s design director Jason Eaton let slip some shots of the money sheets (right before they’re cut) and also did a close-up comparison of our printing sources files (which came straight from technical adviser Geoff Mandel) versus some fanmade money. And what’s that I see? Could it be the CoA for the Mal Pistol? ;-) ”

Above right: a comparison of the actual bill versus a fan-made one. Crisper!

More photos after the jump.
