Curse your sudden but inevitable… autograph

Friday, October 20th, 2006

prop_WashSignedredDino.jpgThe herds are thinning at The Prop Store of London, but there are still some signed dinosaurs to be had.

This one did not have screen time (that we know of) but was signed by Alan Tudyk at a convention and supplied to the Prop Store by Universal.

Sihnon Prints

sihnon_prints.jpgThey’re big, they’re damn, and most of all, they’re pretty heroes. It’s not surprising so many people love drawing them, painting them, cartooning them, and otherwise making their own artistic expressions of what this crew means on a personal level.

sihnon_sample.jpgPeople like Mike Phillips, who opened up http://www.sihnonprints.com/ to showcase his work. He has a nice comfortable style drawing our heroes in ways that alternate between old time photographs and people seen in the dim light of a dusk landing.

Make your own CG Serenity

Monday, October 16th, 2006

lightwaveserenity.jpgSome of you may remember the fantastic Lightwave model of Serenity made by Sean Kennedy some time back. If you’re interested in making your own insanely detailed 3D model, he’s been posting a step-by-step tutorial here.

Aside from the cool versy aspects of it, this is also an incredible tutorial on using Lightwave, the VertiBevil plugin, texturing, and more. You’ll need to know the basics or you’ll get lost very quickly, but this tears the old girl apart and examines every minute detail in, you know, detail.

Lots of pictures throughout. You can also find the tutorials in PDF form here, but I advise going through the forum posts because he answers questions as he goes.

New prop - Special Forces badge

Monday, October 16th, 2006

prop_specialforcesbadge.jpgThis badge can be seen on Simon’s chest in the beginning of the movie, when he was in disguise as a high-ranking official. Gold, metal, it has an eagle perched on the world with rings around it. And it’s back in the maybe-affordable range for most of us, so that’s always nice.

It’s at The Prop Store of London. Why aren’t you?

Serenity fonts

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

rick_fonts.jpgYou know the logo is Papyrus, but what about the rest? Never fear, Rick MacMerc has got you covered, and possibly italicized.

Following up his first run of identified movie fonts, he’s offered up some more detective work, with links. Get fonts for the opening credits, the Fruity Oaty Bar logo, Cortex computer graphics, and more. Nicely done, and thank you, Rick!

So what do you folks want?

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Up till now I’ve been running weekly trivia contests for inexpensive single items (cards), and monthly giveaways of three pricier items (shirts, posters, collectibles). I’m out of the small stuff…

I’m thinking of sticking with the one-item-per-week giveaway, as long as I can get stuff, with no limits on what those items might be. Could be a button, could be an evening with Adam Baldwin (but probably won’t be). But what I wanted to ask was, do you folks prefer plain old random giveaways, or did you like the trivia? Or would you like to see something else?

Yep, I’m letting you decide the terms upon which I’ll just give you stuff, can’t get much fairer than that. Post your comments and we’ll go from there.

Hoodies and Blue Sun at TFAW

Friday, October 6th, 2006

tfaw_hoodies.jpgThings From Another World has added a few new items to their Serenity wear: a Serenity logo hoodie, a Browncoats hoodie, and a Blue Sun tee.

That last, by the way, might explain why bluesunshirts.com got the heads up letter from FOX. If it’s a licensed item, available through places like this and Stylin Online they would want to cut down on unlicensed competitors. If you look closely at the official Blue Sun tees, there’s a Serenity logo underneath the design and a copyright notice from Universal Studios (even though the Blue Sun logo for the movie was different) so it looks as though FOX still isn’t licensing anything. Time to get more creative, Browncoats.

TFAW also reports that the Serenity TPB is their top seller, and scratch n dent copies are on sale for 50% off. And you can still preoprder the “River Triumphant” statue for 10% off.

Never stop believing

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

bmb_believing.jpgIf you followed the recent “no Serenity sequel” rumorfest — Joss was seen visiting cast members, rumors flew, he stated for the record that no sequel plans were in motion, entertainment sites everywhere started ‘Serenity is dead’ articles, you can read it all here — you might appreciate one fan’s response.

Adam at BlackMarketBeagles.com is now offering “I’ll Never Stop Believing” tees, with this explanation:

I however, choose to believe. I will never stop believing in the power of browncoats to do the impossible. I will never stop believing that we will one day see our Big Damn Heroes fly again. I will never stop believing that this movie, these characters, this incredible television show that changed my life forever, will one day rise again.

Keep flyin’, folks. Also available on buttons, bags, and more.

Original Troublemaker shirt for sale

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

prop_jayneshirt.jpgThe Prop Store of London has popped up another gem, albeit a somewhat sweaty one.

The “Troublemaker” tee worn by Jayne during the Miranda scenes can now be yours, complete with carefully added dirt and sweat stains. This is a pretty iconic shirt for him, I’m kinda surprised they’ve waited this long to bring it out. What else you got back there, Prop Store?
