Pre-order the “River Triumphant” statue

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

dst_river.jpgYou can now pre-order Diamond Select’s limited edition statue “River Triumphant” from Things From Another World. Note: important info added.

From Diamond’s description: “This statue, in scale with the previously released action figures, features the graceful and deadly River with weapons in hand – capturing her final battle against an army of bloodthirsty Reavers.  Sculpted by Michael Norman, this intricately-designed piece was created using digital scans from the film itself!  The River Triumphant statue will be limited to 1,000 pieces and will ship to stores in the first quarter of 2007 with a suggested retail price of $99.00.”

I think it’s safe to say these will go pretty fast, so you might want to get your orders in now. Just to make it sweeter, TFAW.com is offering a 10% off price for pre-orders.

One thnig to remember: TFAW does not know at this point how many they’ll get, so they’re offering them on a first-come first-served basis (you will not be charged until your order actually ships) and once they reach 50 they’re cutting off orders until they can verify their shipment. This does not mean they’ll definitely have 50 to sell, though, it depends on the other retailers and any limitations Diamond places.

Faster would be better.

Mal’s stabby shirt

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

prop_MalShirtDisplay.jpgNew at The Prop Store of London, Mal’s shirt from the final battle.

The shirt is brown and has a bloodied hole on the left hand side, with magnetic clip fasteners and fake blood around the collar. It comes custom framed in a glazed display, in a laser cut mount board with the movie title and two film stills.

You know, if you owned the Operative’s sword you could make an interesting display with this…

Abby’s SL Serenity

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

sl_abbyship.jpg

The Serenity at Washtown in Second Life isn’t the only one. I actually saw this one first.

It’s by Abby Dawson and it’s a work in progress. Currently at over 600 prims (shapes) it’s not as accurate a Serenity as the one by Fenix Eldritch that Washtown now boasts, but it’s more furnished, it’s hovering instead of being parked, and it has firing engines courtesy of Hinkley Baldwin and operational shuttles by Ilyara Tardis. Take a peek?

Browncoat Ball tickets on sale at eBay

Monday, September 11th, 2006

bcb-150x200.jpgUpdate from Adam at Black Market Beagles:

“The folks who are putting on this year’s Browncoat Ball in San Francisco are hoping to get about 20 - 30 more people signed up for the ball, and are making a limited number of discount tickets available on eBay, at roughly 20% below the normal price. The discount tickets are $125 for the full weekend (that includes two dances and two dinners, folks!), $80 for the Saturday ticket (which includes the boat tour and the ball), and $60 for the Saturday night ball tickets. You can find them here.

“They’ve also announced that there will be an on-site masseuse as well as a hair/makeup artist at the hotel. Their services are not included in the ticket price, and they can each accommodate only a limited number of clients, but if you’re looking to truly pamper yourself before the ball, they’ve got you covered.

“So, if you haven’t ordered tickets yet, do it now, ’cause the ball’s almost here!”

There will be many downloads in your life. But only one first download from Amazon Unbox Video. So make it special. Light the candles. Pour a beverage and consider:

Firefly, because it didn’t get enough love the first time around.
The Matrix, because Morpheus would want you to.
South Park, because you want to bleepin’ laugh.
Three Kings, because it’s a thriller, an art film, and a killer comedy all in one.

Hints at the new Serenity comic

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Just noticed at whedonesque.com, there’s a mention of the next Serenity comic in an interview with writer Brett Matthews. This is it, in its entirety, although you’re welcome to check out the rest of the article which deals mostly with Matthews comic “The Lone Ranger.”

THE PULSE: What other projects - in or out of comics - are you working on?

MATTHEWS: Joss Whedon and I are just starting up the second round of Serenity comics, a little thing we’re calling BETTER DAYS. Working with him is the best — you learn so much and it’s fun - and, occasionally, very, very humbling. The guy is such a genius, and that’s the least original thing I could ever say about him, because everyone does. So let me add that he’s just a hell of a good guy, too.

Not much, granted, but it’s good to have a) a name for it, and b) reassurance it exists…

“Dark Mirror” Serenity novel mystery (partially) solved

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

You may remember a few months ago there was a stir about an original Serenity novel called “Dark Mirror” that suddenly appeared on Diamond Comics’ order sheet and in several online comic stores listings. No one knew anything solid about how it got there, but it seemed to be a maddening glitch, possibly related to the placeholding-yet-nonexistent Serenity book “Mirror Image” which has been in Amazon for over a year now and continues to plague credited author Keith R. A. DeCandido at Q and As ever since.

Tonight I was googling along, looking for something else entirely, when I found a copy of the 2006 summer catalog for Pocket Books. And on page 79, I found this:
