Party like it’s 2359

prop_fatbottle.jpgNot all the ways of Old Earth have been forgotten. This bottle from the Maidenhead Bar proves that some traditions just keep going, especially when there’s hootch involved.

The label reads “Established 2359, Earth That Was, Old Earth Style Kentucky Bourbon,” and you can pick it at the Prop Store of London. No booze inside, sorry.

Download “Done the Impossible” for free, now, legally

dti_box.jpgThe “Done the Impossible” folks, already supremely cool just for attempting this massive thing, have gone one step further and made the documentary available as a free bit torrent. You can get it right now!

The reasons they listed at legaltorrents.com are basically “Copyright laws are too restrictive,” and “someone’s gonna do it anyway, might as well be us.” The torrent contains the documentary, not all the tons of additional stuff, so this serves as more or less a huge ad for the actual DVD.

This PvP release is protected by a Creative Commons copyright so you can share it and edit it all you like, just please observe the license and don’t rip ‘em off. And please stop by donetheimpossible.com and pick up the DVD (that contains literally hours of extra stuff) and the soundtrack.

Download it here (torrent software required)
Or thanks to the ever lovely gossi, watch it streaming live online at serenitymovie.com .

Dressing up for Beamonde

prop_redpurplejacket.jpgGoing clubbing? Need something stylish to wear before hitting the bars in case a 90-lb girl beats up your date and you have to look good for the newsvids?

Check out this sleek little number. “Made from purple shiny fabric this Chinese style jacket has satin cuff and collar detail and a gold coloured fabric button.” This can be seen, if you’re quick on the pause button, by a background character on Beaumonde when the crew disembarks from Serenity.

A lot more props than I thought

propstoreoflondon1.jpgSorry folks, I’ve been operating under false assumptions. Not that it makes that much of a difference from your end, but in case anyone else has been making the same mistake I wanted to pass this along.

When checking out the Prop Store, I’ve been going exclusively to the New Additions page under Serenity to see what’s been added. My mistake was in thinking the listings on that page were all they had, but according to Katy at the store “we only have the 60 most recent items on the new additions page.” There are, in fact, 163 props from Serenity still available under All Products, including a lot I thought were sold already. So have at it!

Badges of… well, not honor, per se…

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

prop_allianceguardbadges.jpgNew at The Prop Store of London, a set of 5 Alliance guard badges.

Adorned on a suedish-looking background, this display also includes a still from the movie depicting River thinking about busting the collective asses of the Operative’s men, and a laser-cut Serenity logo.

Perfect for showing off your old service badges (for them what worked for the Alliance) or your old fight trophies (for them what beat up the Alliance, often in bars).

I am… conditionally… happy

Computer crash update: it appears my motherboard got fried but my hard drives (and my data) are OK. A huge relief compared to what I was expecting, which was to lose everything and be left sobbing.

Still a great many headaches ahead, but not as many as I’d feared. On the plus side, I did get a column out of it.

Official Serenity RPG character sheet

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

rpg_sheet.gifWould “about time” sound too snarky? Probably, so never mind.

One of the few problems with the award-winning Serenity role-playing game has been added as a free PDF download at the official site. Two-sided, with some simple charts, places for you to keep track of your life points, dice steps and plot points (as well as your stats and the like), it’s designed with a classic Cortex look. Stylish, well laid out, and, like very company-designed character sheet from the dawn of time, it only gives you a half inch to write your name in : )

School’s in for summer

prop_deskandchair.jpgNew at The Prop Store of London - a school desk and chair from River’s flashback.

Made of solid wood and, frankly, looking pretty cool, the set includes a black mat where the computer screen is supposed to go. If I thought for a second I could fit in one of these things, I’d have bought it already. How cool would this be for your computer workstation?
