Boy, take a few days off and stuff keeps happening. Fortunately I have dedicated readers and whedonesque to help keep me in the loop… Stylin Online added more Serenity T-shirt designs. Apparently there’s a market. Who knew? Amazon dropped the price on the Firefly DVDs back down to $24.97, which could explain why it jumped back into the top ten DVD sales ranking after being in a slump the last few weeks. Of course, even being in the top 30 DVD sales at Amazon is pretty good for a cancelled TV series from four years ago. Possibly more importantly, Serenity is now $11.99 at Amazon, which is great timing because Serenity Day is just around the corner. Browncoats across the world are planning to buy a copy of Serenity on June 23 (Joss’ birthday) to show Universal we’re still out here, and we still have some money left. Now that it’s almost half-price, why not buy two? Dunno if the sale price will hold till then, but June 23 is the day to buy. The Armchair Script Doctor does “X-Men: The Last Stand”

The day I saw the movie, I posted this in a forum as a suggested alternative to show it could be done. MASSIVE, TOE-THREATENING SPOILERS! Let the movie open as it did. When Wolverine stops Scott and pushes on how they have to get past Jean’s death, let Scott blast him a few times. Let us see that a) Scott is not handling things very well, and b) he’s a powerful mutant who can take out Wolverine (as he has in the past). Afterwards, when someone makes him stop, he can say the “not everyone heals” line. They hear of the cure, Storm does her “it’s not a disease” bit, but Rogue blows up at her instead of being more or less dazed the whole movie. “At least you can touch someone, feel them touch you! Of course you like it, you’re better than human. Some of us are less.” Scott hears Jean, goes to see the lake, she arises. Not as Dark Phoenix, but as SuperJean, more powerful than before. He brings her back to the mansion, where she explains how she must have protected herself. Just before the flood hit she felt so powerful, she doesn’t know why. […]

I spent yesterday morning sitting on crinkly paper, looking at an exploded illustration of a urinary tract — at least, I really hope, for the poor model’s sake, that it was an exploded illustration — and worrying about my future. I had reason. A few months back I had a transient ischaemic attack, or TIA, or “ministroke,” or “all the fun of a stroke without the crippling part.” From my point of view, it was like being whacked in the side of the head with a factory, one of those big industrial jobs; blurry vision, inability to think coherently, bricks falling everywhere. I spent the next 35 hours experiencing the joys of morphine, the latest in medical imaging tests, and the magical wonders that are only available in an emergency room in Daytona Beach during Spring Break. As it turned out I was extremely fortunate. Ministrokes are warning shots, like your car’s transmission slipping occasionally to let you know you need to get to the mechanic before the engine falls out in a comical fashion.
