Interview: The Bedlam Bards

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

bedlambards.jpgIf you’re at a Renaissance festival and hear “The Hero of Canton,” or working your way through a science fiction convention and hear lilting Celtic music that makes you want to laugh or cry or stomp your feet (or all three) right there in the dealer’s room, you’re hearing the Bedlam Bards.

A bowl, a can of food, River’s dress, and thou

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

The Prop Store of London now has everything you need for a picnic in the worlds: a dented can of fine Blue Sun something or other, a bowl from the Serenity galley, and the dress River was wearing when she beat up all the Reavers in the world.

Collector’s edition Serenity ornaments… maybe

Monday, February 20th, 2006

serenity_ornament.jpgFive collector’s edition versions of the upcoming Serenity Ornament from Dark Horse Comics, signed by Joss with a certificate of authenticity from FOX/Mutant Enemy, have popped up for sale on eBay. There hasn’t been an official announcement concerning these, and they aren’t being solicited by Dark Horse or Diamond Comics Distributors, but the seller told me that the comics collectible retailer she works with offered five of these to auction along with the upcoming regular ones. She was told there were 50 available, although it was unclear if that was 50 total, or just 50 from this retailer.

Serenity TPB best seller in January

Monday, February 20th, 2006

serenity_comic.jpgJust saw this at Whedonesque: according to pop culture tracking site ICv2.com the Serenity trade paperback from Dark Horse Comics was the top selling graphic novel in January, outselling ”New Avengers Vol 1 Breakout,” “Superman Sacrifice,” and “DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore.”

From their analysis:

“Typically January is a month when sales slow down and periodical sales did register a 17% decline from December to January, but graphic novel sales declined only 7.7% thanks to a strong list of titles debuting in January including Dark Horse’s Serenity, which took the top spot.”

If you haven’t read it yet, why not? Get it at Amazon, Things From Another World, and Play.com (International), or at a comics store near you.

I am oddly pleased I wear the same size shoes as Wash.

One sixth scale BDH weapons

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

toysmith_zoerig.jpgMy wife has spent a scary amount of time creating her Firefly Barbies, making a lot of the materials by hand when she couldn’t find a substitute. So it’s always interesting when someone else does the work for her…

The Toy Smith, maker of small scale weapon reproductions, has begun making weapons and holster rigs based on the Firefly versions, perfect for your own doll creations. For sale now is Zoe’s carbine and rig, and Mal’s holster (the gun’s on the way). We had already bought his 47 Colt Walker revolver to serve as Mal’s piece, but I’m looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.

Prop money from the Captain’s brother

prop_cash_capsbro.jpgActual cash from the movie, autographed by Nathan Fillion. Guaranteed authentic, which isn’t too tough since Nathan’s brother Jeff is the one selling these on eBay.
