Custom action figures by Sasha

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

actionfigures_custom_sasha.jpgUnhappy with the first set of Serenity figures? Maybe the faces weren’t close enough, or you were just frustrated that they stopped with three characters? So was Sasha, so she started making her own.

Sasha Powell creates custom figures. BtVS, Angel, her own family and friends, and (wait for it) Firefly! She’s done one of each of the core cast and a few extra versions such as the frou-frou Kaylee (pictured) and busts of Mal, Inara, and the Hero of Canton. Starting from off-the-rack figures from Moore and McFarlane she cuts, slices, sculpts, melts and even boils them until she produces our heroes.

A few more props

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Todays offerings from The Prop Store of London are a container of fortune sticks from Inara’s room and a Reaver axe weapon. You notice none of the Reaver weapons are in good shape? That’s sloppy murdering, in my opinion.

Joss on more Serenity comics, sort of

Monday, January 30th, 2006

In an excellent interview at IGN about his upcoming return to Astonishing X-Men, Joss tosses in a mention that got my ears perked up when he was asked about doing other marvel characters.

“Absolutely.” He added, “It’s only a question of time. The X-Men is definitely my dream book. I have other projects that I know that I would love to do, but I have movie scripts that are a little bit late and TV shows and other things. None of it is any different to me. I love it all. Telling a story is telling a story… I have to be a little realistic about how much time I have, particularly because I am getting back involved in Buffy comics and in a lesser way with a Serenity comic… If there’s some books that Bendis isn’t writing, I’m ready to pick up that slack.”Woo hoo! Not much to hang my hope on, but I’ll take what I can get.

It’s Monday, there must be more props

Monday, January 30th, 2006

prop_peachtin.jpgAnd there are! The Prop Store in London has added two interesting items to their massive Serenity movie prop pile: a circular Reaver weapon, like the one that got pitched at Mal, and (how cool is this?) the can of peaches River used to whale on Jayne. The can is empty and has a green label reading “Peaches” in English and Chinese, with a picture of peaches, and it still has the sticky tape that helped Summer Glau hang on to it. Ready to go for a shuttle ride?

Fantastic auction and prize items announced for Wondercon

Monday, January 30th, 2006

The SF Browncoats will be appaering at this year’s WonderCon in force, and they have a truly amazing collection of Browncoat stuff they’ll be auctioning off or awarding. It’s really too long a list to include here — and they have pictures of most everything on their page about it anyway — but some of the highlights include photos, comics, and a crew shirt signed by the whole cast, specialty T-shirts signed by specific cast members, Kaylee’s parasol signed by Jewel Staite, the Serenity TPB signed by Brett Matthews, the novelization signed by Keith R. A. DeCandido, the limited edition Mal figure from ComiCon 2005, shot glasses, cards, posters… Go check out the list, I swear you’ll start swimming to San Francisco in your own drool.

Now that you have that horrific image in your head, be sure to check out the SF Browncoats site for more general information on a very enthusiastic group of fans, and you can read more about their WonderCon plans here.

WonderCon 2006 is being held at Moscone Center West in San Francisco February 10-12. Get more details here.

Firefly Barbies

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

doll_cast.jpg

I’ll warn you ahead of time, they aren’t for sale. Sorry.

I tend to get caught up in good TV shows, fiction, and movies. My wife loves artwork, crafts, and sewing. Both of us tend to throw ourselves headfirst into whatever we’re currently interested in. Last year our obsessions meshed: Teres started making me Firefly Barbies.

FX Convention: Alan and Summer get dolled up

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

summerandme.jpgJust got back from a very, very crowded Saturday. The FX Sci-Fi Convention is still going on this weekend at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando. Quick review: crowded as hell, tons of stuff to buy, Summer Glau and Alan Tudyk are there signing autographs, some other stars are there too, and that’s about it. For a somewhat lengthier description (and pics), read on.
